The CV Joint would have to come out, take the boot out. The cv joing is probably coming out of the end. There is like a washer that holds it in place and is possible that is out of place. I hope this helps!
Yes there is a torque spec of 180 foot lbs. is recommended. I highly suggest never using an impact for the hub to axle application. If you don't use a properly calibrated torque wrench you could have problems in the future.
