In order to check the fluid in the transmission you need the Mercedes Benz dip stick. It's a special tool needed for all the 722.6 transmissions. Best thing is probably to just stop by a Mercedes Independent shop where they can check it real quick. It uses a synthetic based fluid. I always go with the factory fluid.

My mistake you have a 2004 clk which there is no dip stick tube. To check the fluid level it has to be done from the drain plug. A mercedes sds is needed or a scanner that will read the transmission fluid temperature. When the trans temp reaches a 27 degrees celcuis you open the drain plug and cap it off when the fluid stops running out. See the dealer for the fluid.

Can you assist with where the power steering resorvoir is, need to add fluid to a 2005 clk 320

On the drivers side of the engine you will see the oil filter housing and an air tube. The power steering reservoir is under the air tube.

I need to put fluid in my transmission on 2006 clk 350.

usually one adds tran fluid thru dipstick tube, why would this be any differant ? with car on level surface, having not been running in the last 30 min., warm engine to normal operating temp., 5 min., pull out dipstick to see where level of fluid is, have aclean rag, donot get this fluid on car paint, be careful. wipe off stick, put back in tube, be sure its in all the way, pull it out again, see level on stick, if below fill line , add the recommened fluid type using a funnel, a little bit at a time, shot glass at a time, recheck level w/stick, DO NOT OVER FILL, OK! ( HOPE YOUR CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING THE ENTIRE TIME )

My 1999 clk 320 suddenly will not shift out of 3rd gear, its been going good for 184000 miles and all service has been done by a mercedes mechanic

sounds like the transmission is in limp home mode where it won't shift out of second gear. this is a fail safe mode. If the check engine light is on too then its probably not seeing one of the speed sensors in the transmission. Just need to have the codes pulled in the transmission control module.

My clk 320 mercedes wont shift into gear? what is wrong?

just had the same problem today...there is a small square false door just below the D on the shift plate...the tow guy put a pen into that door and i was able to shift it out of park. now the car won't shift gears as i drive because the car is in 'safe mode'. disconnect the battery to correct. the shifting issue is still unsolved but it appears to be an electrical issue in the transmission but NOT the actual transmission. hope this helps

Where is the trnsmission cap for clk 320 model

Hi there,

Mercedes have purposely not put a transmission dipstick in their cars...to STOP any unauthorised persons from tampering with transmission fluid levels.

Electronic transmissions are extremely temperamental - if incorrect type, level is too low (or too high), this will accelerate premature wear and tear, not to mention erratic shifting behaviour.

For this reason, only Mercedes service agents have the required workshop tool (ie dipstick) which they insert into a tube in the transmission, to check levels.

If you happen to obtain the correct tool for your own use....please ensure you use only Mercedes specified fluids....and NEVER overfill the transmission case.

Cheers,

Transmission leak

Hi, Joe here to help,
The ONLY oil you should use is Mercedes transmission oil. As far as how much to put back in, 4 qts if you do it right away, 4.5 qts. if you let it drain a while.
