When I start my car I am hearing a chugging noise. The service engine soon light is on. I don't want to pay alot of money for them to look at it. Is there something my dad and I can do to fix it ourselfs?

So many things that could cause this problem,have the fuel pressure checked,and then maybe a stopped up cat(converter).If it has jumped time it will have this symptom also.

The best way to fix a P1456 error (small evap. leak) on your Nissan is to have a "smoke machine" test done on it. This machine is hooked up to your car and pushes smoke throught the evap. system. The smoke will shoot out of the leak and indicate its precise location. You can also try getting a new gas cap and make sure that it clicks 3 times when you close it after filling your tank. Also, NEVER leave your car running when your fueling up as this can cause your "service engine soon" light to come on. The best choice however is doing the smoke test as this will elimiate any guess as to the location of the leak. Nissan dealers can perform this smoke machine test for you for about $90.00 and can save you alot of money by pin-pointing the leak so you don't keep buying parts you don't need.

IF you are absolutely certain YOU know why the light is on ... and there is no other reason ... you can probably have this code cleared by someone with a SCAN tool ... expect to pay for the service ... and probably pay near what it will cost to repair the problem. When the mechanic clears the code, he or she will have to get enough money to "recover" when you come back in a few weeks and say HE or she DID IT AND NOW MY CAR WILL NOT WORK.

That means your gettingan engine code You are having a problem with an engine sensor Take it to your local parts store most of them will read the code for free Then you need to replace the sensor or take it to somebody to have it done But don;t ignore it fix it now Did you ever see the comerical on TV where the guy says you can pay me now or pay me later?

these cars have alot of problems with the cranshaft sensor .

The light comes on when the car's computer detects that something has an incorrect reading that is sending that incorrect reading from the sensing unit to the computer.

Here's how i would attempt to solve it. To reset an service engine soon light take the positive terminal off of the battery and let it drain all the voltage and currents in your vehicle. Like try turning on your radio and turning your car over while the positive terminal is taken off of the battery terminal.

I would say let it sit for atleast 15 minutes then put it back on and start the car back up. If the light still comes back one then you have a small problem that could be many different little things

Check to see that your gas cap isn't worn out and still keeping a seal so when you take it off you should hear air escaping from it

Could be a filter in your fuel tank.

Could be o2 sensors

The list could go on, but to make sure before you start spending a huge amounts of money go to a shop and get them to plug in a scanner into your car to see what exactly the code is.

i think its your computer. but first chek your alternator

with ignition ON, push the OFF and WARM buttons togethend release. on your A/C control panel. Hold for 5 sec and stored codes should show. Codes should reflect upon problem you are experienceing. Hope this helps.

cross the wire, probably the firing order problem.

Did you change the distributor cap, sometimes the distributor cap inside cracked, you won't see it, take off the distributor cap, but you have to remember the wires' order, lightly drop the distributor cap see if you can hear the cracking noise.

Or during the dark night, get a dark place, start your engine,see if there is spark out, fix that, maybe your car will run better.

When I had my Union 76 service station, I have solved several cases like thiat.

I had a big Sun electronic scope from 1973 to 1984, during that time, something I could't ping point where the problem was, therfore I used many experience, maybe I am wrong, but you can try it, I like to try everything.
