Google the year make model and code and it comes right up on your computer. I would have posted a link but I am still learning how to use this new system.
Code 1404 for Saturn cars means the computer thinks the EGR is not closing. But it can also mean the computer needs to be re-programmed. There are service bulletins for some models. Code 405 is a problem with the EGR sensor which can be causing the other code. Generally the sensor is telling the computer the valve is not closed when the computer commands it to be closed. It may be tough to fix if the problem is not constant.
Yuo don't say what year or model but im almost certin that this is the EGR valve pentile valve is eighter stuck open or is not sealing correctly. Witch baiscly means you need to replace the EGR valve and clean where the pentile seals to the intake manifold under were the EGR valve it mounted on the manifold
EGR Valve Closed pintle Position This valve is located on the intake manifold near the carb (behind I think) It looks like a flying saucer on its side with a six sided raised portion and a vacuum line going into it. If you push on the valvediaphragm (side opposite the raised portion I mentioned earlier) it should move in and out without too much effort. Be sure the engine is cold to prevent burns. If the valve is stuck - replace it. There also may be a filter in on a bracket near the valve if your vehicle is equiped with an electronic VRV (Vaccum Regulator Valve) Hope this helps. Let me know. Thanks
I believe that is for you EGR valve(exhaust gas resurculation valve). it may be the valve itself of one of the vacume switching valves that are acociated with it. just fixed this on my RAV4.
The check engine light is on to tell you that the ECU has detected a fault. The faults are stored as codes. The codes both have to do with a deficiency of exhaust gas going through the EGR valve. You will need to find out if the problem has to do with the valve, a leak, or the circuit.
Trouble code P1404 means: EGR Close Position Performance basically pull off the EGR and try to clean it up, if that doesn't work it will need to be replaced. Hope that helps!
