2002 Saturn Vue automatic. upon acceleration it makes really bad sounds like a sewing machine "chug-a-chug-a-chug-a-chug" and very fast. It seems to lack power when accelerating. When the vehicle is up to speed it seems to run fine. But when I have to acclerate the sounds come back. Do you think it is the transmission or fluid level or something else.

Sounds like a insufficient ground situation. Start out by cleaning your battery connections. You probably have a ground wire that is responsible for several circuits, not connected securely to the chassis. This could be under the dash. You may have to consult your wiring diagram on your vehicle.

You have a slave cylinder for this trans. Pump the clutch pedal 25 times with the engine OFF. Then start it and try shifting it into each gear while parked. If this make it work your slave cylinder needs to be replaced

I have a 2002 saturn vue. Same thing..sounded like a jet engine ...loud humming as I accelerated . It got increasingly worse. It turned out to be the front wheel bearings. Replace them, now the noise is half as loud...have to do the rears also! 93,000 miles on it. Also, don't forget to replace the timing belt. It it goes too long and breaks, it will trash the engine...

U NEED TO HAVE THE CV JOINTS CHECKED FOR EXCESSIVE WEAR, ALSO ROTATE THE TIRES AND SEE IF THAT HELPS, A SEPERATED TIRE CORD CAN CAUSE THIS WALLOW.

Have you checked your wheel bearings? When these go out you can get a harsh grinding noise. This sounds like that is what it might be. Does it happen when you are going fast/slow turning/going straight? I know you said it's inconsistent but the more info the better. Vues are bad for having all hub bearings make noise,check your rear ones.Or the ones you didn't have replaced.If it's all wheel drive check the propshaft center carrier bearing.Common to fail & make noise.hope this helps

I currently own a 2005 saturn vue and also a 2002 saturn vue. My 2005 began making the same whistling sound around 36000 miles, I let it go and let it go. Finally it got so bad I could not deal with it any longer, I have a great mechanic and he automatically point out the carrier bareing I had it replaced and my car is very very peaceful...... :) Hope this helps.

Bad alternators straight out of the box are not uncommon. Replace it again and hope you get a good one. Make them test it on the bench before taking it out of the store.
