Trying 2 find out code for po173 - 2000 Ford Taurus

These are fuel trim codes indicating a problem for bank 1 and bank2 of the engine. There are a variety if things that can cause these codes to appear. The two most common problems I have encountered that set these codes are vacuum leaks and mass air flow sensors dirty/defective. Check all vacuum lines for being connected and especially the air hose that runs from the air filter housing to the throttle body for secureness and splitting.

Code PO301 is number one cylinder; misfire detected.

Code PO173 is fuel trim malfunction bank 2, possible cause intake air leak, fuel pressure or injector.

If you have no factory diagnostic manuals & I wouldn't
think you would, you can find codes on the internet for
your vehicle.

Sounds like a O2 sensor but try disconnecting the battery and joining the leads together for 5 mins and then read codes again

The code you mentioned is a general code for problems with the fuel injection system. It could mean that the fuel pressure regulator is faulty, or something is wrong with the fuel pump or the fuel injectors

Hi, both codes indicates a bad Mass Air Flow Sensor..
The airmass meter is a common problem. CRC makes an aerosol "Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner" that you can try to use to clean sensor.It is located in the intake hose between the air filter housing and the throttle body.

fuel trim malfunction is po173,not transmission problem.This would be a fuel related problem,but the stuck in 3rd gear is,it maybe a stuck governor,or valve in the valve body,try a product called lube guard at napa,it works wonders.
