There is a connector under the steering column, you need to buy an OBD 2 system scanner to plug into that connector and access the codes. The system is always in diagnostic mode, OBD 2 stands for On Board Diagnostics second generation.

SOURCE: ecm fuse keeps blowing

just fixed this problem, change your fuel pump module, fuel sending unit shorts out on fuel level swing arm blue wire... unfortinately you must replace it as unit because of the design, fuel pump and tank guage fuel level sending unit are a one peice item, fuel tank has to come out to change unit, about a $ 700.00 repair too... fuel pump module runs about 350 to 700 $ depending on aftermarket or factory, try to find one with a lifetime warranty even if it is $ 50.00 more worth it..labor is about $ 250 to $ 400 depending on shop labor rate... definate problem though I ahve no doubt, common problem on GM... please rate my help, thanks...

GMC Sierra 1500 LD AT4 light duty off-road truck? USA?????
all usa cars every one, 1996 to now
all real scan tools have button that resets all DTC errors in the PCM
be advised that there are others things that can trip that lamp CEL
air bags, TCM transmission, ABS, and more...
any shop can reset it. let them>?
or buy or rent the tool.
or driver them off (means after the bad part is replace) may take 30 driving cycles, to make that auto reset.
the service manual covers the rules on this, each DTC facts
if they come back it means the error is REAL and most be repaired.
there are 2 kinds of DTC (codes slang) stored and real and live now.
real can not be erased, only repaired.
there is one other way, (2):?
battery neg lug pull or find the OID fuse and pull them .
OID is memory power to all puters.

to pull; battery neg lug.
ask the radio first for its radio, password locked codes
or it goes dead,
if it has that features and if it did day1 new the glove box has this tag for the radio says, do not lose this radio code, and now you know why..
side effect #2 on battery pull is
many devices in the car go to learn mode, even A/T
and throttle too. and idle controls.
and no smog test can be done now until all OBD2 monitors complete

2009 GMC Sierra traction control light on

traction control light on . DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes are stored in ABS control module pointing to the malfunction . Take to a qualified repair shop or to auto part store that can pull these code. DTC C0242 00: Engine Control Module (ECM) Indicated TCS Malfunction
DTC P0856: Traction Control Torque Request Circuit
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) and the engine control module (ECM) simultaneously control the traction control. The EBCM sends a serial data message to the ECM requesting torque reduction. When certain ECM DTCs are set, the ECM will not be able to perform the torque reduction for traction control. A serial data message is sent to the EBCM indicating that traction control is not allowed.
DTC C0561 4B: System Disabled Information Stored Calibration Not Learned
DTC C0561 54: System Disabled Information Stored Temparature High
DTC C0561 59: System Disabled Information Stored Component Protection Time Out
DTC C0561 71: System Disabled Information Stored Invalid Serial Data Received
DTC C0561 72: System Disabled Information Stored Alive Counter Incorrect
DTC C0561 74: System Disabled Information Stored Value of Signal Protection Calculation Incorrect
DTC C0561 75: System Disabled Information Stored Signal Above Allowable Range

Traction Control Off Indicator
The IPC illuminates the traction off indicator when the following occurs.
• The EBCM disables engine torque reduction due to a malfunction and sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting illumination.
• The driver manually disables VSES and engine torque reduction by pressing the traction control switch. The EBCM sends a serial data message to the IPC requesting illumination.

My 2007 GMC envoy Denali after it has been running for a few minutes the engine dies either sitting there or while driving, the engine will turn over but will not fire. P1682 code is confirmed

There are 2 ignition 1 voltage circuits supplied to the engine control module (ECM). The first ignition circuit is
provided by the powertrain relay, through a fuse. This ignition 1 voltage circuit supplies power to all the
internal ECM circuits associated with the throttle actuator control (TAC) operation. The second ignition 1
voltage circuit is supplied by the ignition switch through a fuse, and is used to power the remaining internal
ECM circuits. If the ECM detects a voltage difference between the 2 ignition 1 voltage circuits, DTC P1682
will set.

Get a subscription to alldatadiy.com and print out the troubleshooting steps. You've already wasted more than the cost of a good manual by replacing a good switch.

Check engine epc code

The EPC yellow light is not a DTC code! EPC means Electronic Pedal Control.
First of all you need to access the Engine Control Module (ECM) using suitable diagnostic equipment connected to the data link connector of the car, in order to pull out all DTC's memored. DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. Then you will bu full informed about the root cause of the problem, and you will be able to repair & replace bad pieces and reset the ECM. Then the EPC (Electronic Pedal Control) yellow light will turn OFF.

1997 chevy blazer 4*4 will not go into reverse , drives and shifts sluggish in forward gears . parked overnight went to back up the next morning and vehicle was like neutral in reverse. fluid level is ok .

You may have a bad revers solenoid. Check the fuse and look for any of the fuse to be bad like the transmission fuse. Best thing to do is get the blazer scanned at Auto Zone free of charge for any DTC codes that may be affecting your transmission's performance. Try this, place the ignition to the run position and pull the ECM(BATT) fuse out for 30 seconds and then place it back in. Start the Blazer, it may stall but let it. Just start it again the ECM is just relearning the engine and transmission, let it idle for 1 min and then go for a test drive. This should reset everything in the truck's ECM like the day it was first started and any DTC code will be new and active. Do not add any additives like lucas transmission fluid repair, that will just make it worst. Any additive that may the transmission thicker will make the fluid retention more making the shift solenoid stick causing shift conflicts. Good luck and keep me posted. No revers is ether a bad solenoid, bad PCM signal, or broken sun gear.

Air Ride control.

Your going to have to get the Yukon scanned for any dtc codes. Auto Zone can scan free of charge or any Transmission shop that has a tech 2 scanner can read any dtc codes on the Yukon's ECM to why it's shifting hard. Elevated transmission line pressure will promote hard shift and delayed shifting can be cause by TPS readings being off. You can try this if you like, place the ignition to the run position and pull the fuse to the ECM (BATT) for 30 sec and place it back in. Start the Yukon and it may stall, but let it, DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING. Just start it again and let idle for 1 min and then go for a test drive. Doing this will reset the ECM and need to relearn the engine and transmission and clear all the DTC codes. If there are any DTC codes,s its recent and needs to be addressed. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

Poor accerlation and backfires around 3000 rpms

There to many things that can cause this, restricted fuel flow (dirty Fuel Filter), worn rotor and cap, spark plugs and wire, dirty injectors, and timing not advancing. Let's try to get some DTC codes and hope that would narrow the problem. If there is not DTC codes then that's good that it may just be a simple tune up. Here is a link for you to retrieve the DTC codes your self. If you have the new DTC Port then your going to have to go to Auto Zone and have them pull any codes from the ECM and it's free there. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted and be glad to help. http://www.troublecodes.net/GM/
