Look at the bolt holes, are they tapped/have threads? If so, you could get a tap and die set, find the proper size tap to chase the threads. You might be able to use slightly larger tap and rethread the hole. The tap usually has the size and thread stamped on it. If that is a self tapping screw that holds it, You could get a self tapping screw slightly bigger than the hole and screw it in.
Of course I can see anything from here. Your talking about coolant reservoir?
have got same problem with my 95 terrano deisel. if you leave for 10 or more seconds after glow plug light goes out it starts fine. aparantly they still glow after the light goes out.
Sounds like the engine mount that connects with the starter bolts shifted a little after removing the starter. Loosen up the engine mount bolts a bit, then, when putting the starter bolts back in, use a pry bar to move the engine mount a little in order to line up the starter bolts properly. Then, once all the starter bolts are are properly threaded in, tighten the starter bolts securely, and re-tighten the engine mount bolts loosened off previously. Hope this helps.
Either way ,is a lot of work. First thing I would try is a little bit longer bolt. Take a screw driver and push into the stripped hole to determine how long you can go.Even 1/4 inch more threads might be enough to hold starter secure. A little sealer on threads would be good.. If all that fails ,try to oversize the bolt and retap.Make sure the oversize bolt will go through the starter. I have had good success with J B WELD [brand] to drill and retap. Just make sure the surface is clean
Hi. here's the procdeure on how to remove and replace new starte for your truck.
Step 1
Disconnect the battery's negative cable from the battery using the battery wrench.
Step 2
Lift the right front end of the Ranger with the floor jack and then lower it onto the jack stand. Make sure the jack stand is under the right front frame, but does not impede your access to the starter.
Step 3
Climb under the Ranger with the socket set and unbolt the starter wiring using the socket set.
Step 4
Support the body of the starter with one hand while you remove the two starter-mounting bolts with the socket set using your other hand. Do not let the starter rest on the loose bolts at any time during this process.
Step 5
Set the old starter off to the side and hold the replacement starter in position. Thread the mounting bolts back in by hand and then tighten them down with the socket set. Once again, do not let the starter's weight rest on the bolts until you tighten them down fully.
Step 6
Bolt the starter wiring to the new starter using the socket set.
Step 7
Climb out and lower the Ranger off the jack stand using the floor jack. Reconnect the negative battery cable with the battery wrench.
try this ? on some models you have to remove starter bolt/s as these sometimes actually screw into a thread that is on the clutch housing look at starter bolts they are probably what is holding trans ?hope this helps
typically there will be one heavy gauge red wire with a loop eye terminal. It will be pretty obvious where to attach this wire being that there is a large threaded post on the starter which you will bolt the red wire to. MAKE SURE TO DISCONNECT YOUR BATTERY TERMINALS FIRST. then there will usually be a smaller gauge black wire that will thread onto a smaller post. bolt your starter in place, attach the battery cables, and you will be set.
is it in the starter or the trans? In the starter, replace the starter. In the trans, you may need to have someone repair the threads with helicoil, or you can put some locktight on the bolt, get it fairly tight, and it should set up.
First things first;
1) check Terminals and make sure tight & clean
2) Make sure the batteries good
3) Make sure connection from battery to starter is secured
4) Make sure its not the starter clicking if it is change it.
5) Make sure starter relay is good located with all fuses!
try using some thread locker on the bolts. If this still doesn't help, you may have to get a helicoil repair kit. These kits repair damaged threads by drilling the bad ones out, tapping the hole with new threads, then screwing a thread adapter in to bring it back to the original size.
Hope this helps:)
