Air conditioning/Check Engine light in 2001 Ford Windstar

The air condtioning doesn't work and the check engine light is on. I think it may be a vacuum leak; how can I tell what the problem is and how can I fix it?

A vacuum leak is a normal thing to run across on a windstar the plenum (upper intake ) gaskets are rubber and usually end up having to be replaced. A good indicator is usually missing on one cylinder and a tune up has been done and the coil works fine. You may run around town and find a parts store that will scan your check engine light for free and look for a p0301-06 code, a p0300 is a random miss. First things first scan for you code.

I have a ford windstar 2001 it sputters or chugs at idle. Sometimes I have to shut it off a few times for it to stop. Any ideas?

Is the check engine light on? I really need more info on your veh. Eng. size, etc. You might have a look at the cold air intake tube, It could have a crack in it or be loose where it mounts to throttle body or air cleaner( could be drawing cold air in where it's not suppose to)If you can get me more details we can get to the bottom of your troubles, Hope this helps, Randy 6/2/15 Hi Shannon, Ok you had it checked and they said it was a sensor, If you can get me that code# we may be able to get to the bottom of your problem. Also just a little advise, I have been a mechanic for 40 years when it comes to Drivability Problems(check engine light) Please don't take your vehicle to AutoZone or any other "PARTS" store that calms to be able to diagnose your check engine light, Remember what they do, they sell parts....95% of the time the check engine light comes on is because of a emission related problem, meaning fuel related, ignition related, timing related. And some of these can be extremely costly to your engine, RE: Catastrophic engine failure. 1 injector or even a coil on plug going bad can destroy your engine, The auto parts store don't have the knowledge or tech. training to diagnose Drivability problems. They will read codes with a code reader not a scanner and then give you a piece of paper on how to repair it. Drivability techs spend yrs of training and money to diagnose these problems in todays cars. Just a little piece of mind take it to an expert.

2001 Windstar- I have no heat or defrost. I do

I had this problem and noticed a faint clunking sound behind the radio. It was the blend door motor that needed to be replaced. The motor has small fine tooth plastic gears that wear out and won't open to allow heat.

2000 Ford Windstar is running too lean how do

The check engine light should be on--rent a scanner, read any code(s), and pursue to repair(s). The O2 sensor has direct control over fuel/air ratio. The other sensors in the air intake system modify these settings for peak performance under varying conditions.

We had the same problem but when we put in a new fuse it smoked. It turned out to be something with the master cylinder and required the changing of a 20 dollar part by the mechanic and problem solved

2001 WINDSTAR ENGINE RATTLE

Stop running the engine. Check the engine oil level. It should have a yellow colored handle, pull it out and check at the bottom of the stick for oil. If it is within the range on the dipstick, you need some engine work done. If you don't have any oil on the stick, or it is lower than the range, just add more oil, a little at a time until you get it back within range.

Check engine light comes on and code says it is a fuel air mixture problem

my 2001 Ford Windstar blows smoke and heavy drops of oil out the exaust, and usually only does it when it is cold and you first start it. The oil level in the crank case runs all out in two days and have to add four quarts of oil. What do you think the problem is?
