SOURCE: Instrument cluster went blank

I am currently working on my 92 Deville with the same problem. I was driving along, and smelled what I felt was a smoking printed circuit board. I looked down, and the digital fuel data center and climate control panel were dark.

I have the factory shop manual, and with the aid of a meter and the manual, I traced the problem to a bad BCM. The 16v supply coming from the BCM was gone. Opened up the BCM and found an overheated transistor. I also removed the fuel data center and the Climate control panel. The fuel data center panel did not smell good. I found a shorted capacitor on the Fuel data center circuit board. I am replacing the capacitor, and will be picking up a used BCM at the boneyard tomorrow. I might also have an overheated wire in a cable that might have to be replaced. I have not gotten that far in the troubleshooting yet.

Good luck with your problem.......

SOURCE: instrument cluster 2001 buick century

It comes off from the front. Open the front passenger side door and remove the fuse panel access door on the right hand side of the dash. There`s 1 screw to remove frome the dash cover and then pull the cover off. It`s easiest to work the top out and then lift up and out. Then there are 4 screws that hold the instrument cluster in place, remove them and pull it out andf you`ll have access to the bulbs.

Once you do it you`ll find you can pull the ****** out in 5 or 10 minutes.

SOURCE: Need to replace burnt out dash board lights 2001 Toyota Corolla

Just remove the 4 screws and then slowly pull the cluster out and reach behind and disconnect the plugs on the back of the unit and then remove the cluster. The bulbs can be removed by turning them and pulling out.

How to replace the dashboard bulb in a 1999 plymouth voyager

Which light is out? Is it an instrument cluster light, or one on the temperature or A/C cluster? It it's an instrument cluster light, here is the process: (I'm assuming the 99 is similar to the 98) Remove the bottom dash panel under the steering wheel, remove the instrument cluster cover around the steering column. This will reveal the screws that hold your instrument cluster cover in place. Remove this cover and you can then see and remove the 4 screws holding your instrument cluster in place. Pull your instrument cluster out, remove the main wire connector, then you have access to all the instrument cluster lights on the back side. Hopefully you remember which one is out!

1998 airbag light comes on and off. when light is on the spedometer and rpm dials go to zero when airbag light goes off they work again. This is not a continous problem but does it off and on.

There is a loose connection (or corrosion) where the instrument cluster attaches to the wiring harness mount. Remove the screws (2) from the dash cover below the steering wheel and remove the panel. Remove the defrost vent cover (just lift carefully, it only snaps into place. Remove the screws around the cluster panel cover and remove the cover. Remove the the instrument cluster (it pulls straight out toward you) and make sure the wires are not corroded. Make sure the wiring harness is firmly attached to the metal bracket that holds them in place. Carefully push the instrument cluster back into place. While firmly holding the cluster in place, install and tightnen the screws that hold the cluster. After tightening, wiggle it and make sure it's solid. Start your Jeep and make sure everything works. Shut jeep off and install the rest of the panels in the reverse order of removal. This should fix your problem. What happens is, the cluster becomes loose, speedo quits working (sometimes all other gauges quit also) and gives an airbag code.

The heater is located in the air ducting plenum box, to access this you must remove the instrument cluster, the radio and the heater controls, then unbolt the entire dash and remove it. This is a huge job, around 10 hours.

Instrument cluster looses power

I have seen this problem several times and fixed it by doing the following at no cost. Rather than replacing the cluster, remove the cluster then remove the wiring connectors from the location they are mounted. Plug these connectors back into the cluster and reinstall the cluster. By installing the connectors off of the mounting location you are pinning them between the mounting location and the cluster thus not allowing them the free play that causes loss of connection/power.
