The only way to diagnose is electronically by asking an auto electrician to scan it with a pro grade scan tool computer. They can also record what is happening on a drive! It sounds a mess for sure, mechanical and electrical and the computer can diagnose both.
auto trans no less.. it shifts no you.
so what trans is there?
so reverse works, 1 gear, then 2nd , but not 3rd.
some have a TCM that does the auto shifts.
and must be scanned to see why it wont shift.
levels ok, that be like first first. done not like engine, ever.
do it correctly.
The TCM may have flash codes, the FSM factory serv. man. covers this, as does mitchells.but it will ask you
what engine you have, and which trans is car 4wd?
first know your drive train then ask.
this is not an uncommon problem.
you will need to go to your local holden dealer and purchase a new gear shift button.
To fit the new gear shift button you will need to remove the centre console insert and the screw that holds the t-bar trim in position..
hi, My first thought on this is that you may have a linkage issue. your shifter may read that you are in drive, but you may only be in 2nd gear. Check it out. bump it up so it will look like you are putting the car into nutral, but be careful to not go too far and put it in reverse. if that is not the issue, I would suggest that your car has a brain that knows that the transmition has a problem with 3rd gear and simply wont let it shift into 3rd because maybe there is no 3rd. like the band could be broken. post your results if ya dont mind. I am interested to hear more. I hope this helps ya. Tim
is it an auto or manual? if its auto the selector band may be too loose or gone completely, check fluid levels and make sure they are good as that can cause it to play up, a service may help free it of clogged and cluttered debree.
if it isnt low on transmission oil your reverse gear solinoid needs to be changed take but i suggest you check where your leak is comming from id say it would be tha pan gasket
