Mitsubishi Galant 2004 is stalling while driving.. Dashboard gear indicator is moving between drive and neutral while the car is in drive. What could be causing this issue. Is it the transmission or a sensor of some sort.

Automatic not changing gears

check the shifter mechanism for binding up and not moving freely into positions. Not starting in park but in neutral indicates something is out of alignment with the shifter. May just need cleaning and a bit of oil/grease to fix.

Perhaps the shift linkage has slipped and the car is actually in neutral. Try shifting to a lower gear position.

If the car doesn't move in any gear position, you may have a problem with the shift linkage or transmission.

If no gear selector light. Then it can be faulty Gear selector module or loose wire connection with the Gearbox ECU.If that checks ok then its faulty gear box. Thanks. keep updated for any more query.you can rate this solution and show your appreciation.

you may have broken the shift cable, that's why it shows the vehicle is in park and won't go in any gear.
put your car in neutral with engine off and try to push it. if it does not move then you know it's in park and the cable is broke
