Headlights pointing down

The bulb assembly in the headlight isn't fitting in properly and I think I need to disassemble the headlight casing so I can see whats going on. Is there a diagram to show me how to do this? Many thanks.
John

Most likely the reflector body has melted. top cause; those aftermarket blue/yellow/other colored light bulbs. if in the U.S. 55 watts is the max allowed for a headlamp.most the "super bulbs " are 65 watts or better. not only is there more heat but the wireing was designed for 55w any more causes exesive heat therefore melting plastic housing in wich case the housing needs to be replaced and original cause needs to be corrected.

Trying to change headlight bulb

Hello,

The 2004 grand prix pontiac houses 2 headlight bulbs per headlight assembly. The low beam headlight are located at the fender of the car and the high beam on the grill side of the assembly.

To replace the headlight bulb of Your pontiac grand prix, 2004 model. It is qiute technical and moderately easy to fix. There is no solution that cannot be done the DIY way, as long as You get the proper guide and You are technically able to do such works.
  1. Park the Grand Prix on a flat surface, apply the parking brake and ensure both the engine and headlight switches are off.
  2. Open the hood and approach the headlight assembly with the faulty headlight bulb.
  3. Locate the headlight assembly retaining clip. It's behind the headlight assembly on top on the fender side. Lift the clip upward halfway to release the headlight assembly.
  4. Pull the assembly out being careful not to scratch the paint on the fender or the lens of the assembly.
  5. Reach behind the assembly and disconnect the wire connection and plug from the headlight bulb socket.
  6. Turn the socket of the bulb counterclockwise 1/4-turn to remove the composite bulb from the assembly. Discard the bulb.
  7. Install the replacement bulb into the assembly (handling the plastic socket part only oil in skin will damage the glass bulb of halogen bulbs because of the intense heat they burn at), but ensure the tabs of the socket end of the bulb are aligned with the notches in the assembly before turning it clockwise and locking the bulb into place.
  8. Plug the wire connection back into the socket of the bulb before replacing the assembly back into place and pushing down on the retaining clip. Test the headlight bulb for operation before closing the hood.
Hope this was helpful. Thank You for using FixYa!!!

How to replace Head light & running light switch

remove the 4 bolts that hold the headlight assembly into the chassis frame.
For example, to remove the left front headlight;
It takes a 9006 low beam bulb, OEM is 51 watts If you buy a halogen upgrade, it will be a 55 watt bulb I don't know if you can put a super xenon bulb in there, it may harm the harness, I don't know so don't rely on me for that...
Lift the hood Get a socket head wrench and some SAE (standard) sockets. Find the socket that fits the bolt head just above the headlight. I think it is a 3/8's or slightly larger.
There are 4 bolts screwed through the frame into the top of the headlamp assembly. The bolts on each end of the headlight are longer and go all the way through the assembly to align it properly.
Lay each bolt out, on the ground in the order you removed them. The middle two bolts are short, maybe 1 " and the ends are closer to 3.5" long.
Once the bolts are out, slide the headlight assembly forward. There are two bulbs, a high and low beam. The low beam bulb is to the outside of the car, or drivers side on the left, farthest to the passenger side on the right.
Most of the time the low beam will burn out since it's used 90% of the time.
The bulb has a right angle fitting with a wiring harness attached. With your hand or a channel lock pair of pliers, gradually rotate the light bulb base counter clockwise until the unit is loose in the socket holder.
Disconnect the bulb from the wiring harness and replace it with the new bulb.
Reverse the process and turn on the headlights to check you have the bulb harness properly attached before finishing up the reassembly of the 4 bolts.
Your bulb alignment with the ground should not have changed from this work. Have fun...not difficult. Takes about 10 minutes per bulb.

Passenger side headlight assembly inop. high and low beam bulbs good. fuses good. is there a relay? is so where is it

If only one headlight isn't operative, your fuse and bulbs are ok, then check for proper grounding at the headlight assembly.
There should be a black wire that comes from the headlight assembly and is attached somewhere at a good grounding point.
You can have power to the lamp, but if you don't have a solid ground connection, it won't light up.

Changing the headlight bulb in 2003 dodge grand caravan

1) open the hood.
2) Carefully remove the three screws holding the headlight assembly in place.
3) Carefully slide the headlight assembly out. At this point you can replace the headlight bulb, turn signal bulb, or the entire headlight assembly. To replace the headlight bulb turn the collar holding the bulb in counter clockwise. Pull the bulb out of the headlight assembly. Replace the bulb. Insert the bulb into the headlight assembly insert the collar and turn clockwise until it locks. (Do not touchglass with your fingers or it will cause the bulbs to catastrophically fail - clean with alcohol pad if you touch the glass)
4) Carefully insert the headlight assembly back into place.
5) Replace the three screws removed in step 2 being careful not to over tighten.

How to remove headlanmp to replace bulb

This also applies to the 2001 GMC Jimmy.
The headlight assembly is held in place as one entire unit.
In between the battery and the headlight assembly unit are two tabs that when pulled upward (by hand) will release the housing from the vehicle. (VERY EASY once you know). The headlight assembly is now held to the vehicle ONLY by wires, so don't let it drop and break. It's now just a matter of bulb replacement from the backside of the headlight assembly. Do this by turning the bulb in it's socket until the little catches line up with the open slots and poll the light bulb out. Do NOT touch the glass portion of the new bulb you are installing if it is a halogen bulb. Doing so will severely shorten the life of the bulb since contaminants on your hands cause the bulb to quickly overheat and die.
Once the bulb is changed and plugged back into the wires, put the headlight assembly back in place by aligning it and poke the two plastic pegs on the back of the headlight assembly into the two square holes in the front of the vehicle. Now slide the two tabs you originally pulled up to release the headlight assembly, back down into place making sure the "slots" at the bottom of sliding tabs catch the square plastic pegs on the back of the headlight assembly. Do NOT pound the sliding tabs back down. Doing so will break the square pegs off of the back of the headlight assembly and pounding is not necessary if you have them properly in the square holes and all of the way in.
