My car would not move in drive if the engine has just started.

Depending upon the sophistication of the car engine management systems, if the car engine is cold, the drive position of gears will not engage immediately. The automatic gear controller will delay the shifting of gears until the engine is warm enough, as signalled by the engine control module. This saves fuel, engine wear and tear and normalizes the startup conditions of the engine. Does it begin moving after a few seconds?
Which car do you have? Pleas explain your problem in more detail to get a better answer/suggestion.

Bmw x5 2001 the car doesnt pick up speed when put in gear and doesnt always go into gear there is a delay when put reverse I follow manual intructions turn off the engine and wait a few minutes then...

Read the trouble codes for your automatic transmission using a scan tool. I like the wireless ELM327 OBD2 adapter and OBD Fusion app.
The trouble codes will tell you why the transmissiion is putting the car in limp mode.

When cold in mornings when back up then shift into

Every car needs a heating engine time specially when its cold, I recomend like about 5 to 10 minutes after you start engine and before you change from P to D. If you try to start the engine first time in the morning, it's cold outside and you immediately go on run you are going to have this trouble every time. Every engine has it's operational standard temperature a 5 to 10 minutes working engine, car stopped, may guaranty this standard temperature and optimal function conditions, and also keeps a longer life of your car.

Good luck

Transmission problem bmw x5 automatic

dear friend-the fact that your vehcl does not pick up speed tells me that it is slipping, there is a pressure lost in the gear box,you have to remove and rebuild as the clutches will be burnt.

When starting 1997 aspire in morning-delay in starting

Starter solenoid probably.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sequence of Operation

NOTE: An overrunning clutch in the drive assembly protects the starter motor (11002) from excessive speeds during the brief period before the driver releases the ignition switch (11572) from the START position (as the engine (6007) starts).

  1. The ignition switch is turned to the START position.
  1. The starter solenoid (11390) is energized, creating a magnetic field in the solenoid coil.
  1. The iron plunger core is drawn into the solenoid coil.
  1. A drive lever and pin (11067) connected to the drive assembly engages the starter drive (11350) to the flywheel ring gear.
  1. When the iron plunger core is all the way into the coil, its contact disc closes the circuit between the battery (10655) and the starter motor terminals.
  1. The current flows to the starter motor, and the starter drive cranks the flywheel (6375) and the crankshaft (6303).
  1. As current flows to the starter motor, the pull-in coil is bypassed.
  1. The hold-in coil keeps the starter drive engaged with the flywheel.
  1. The starter drive remains engaged until the ignition switch is released from the START position.

#1 is the stater with the solenoid on top of it.

Bmw x5 slow gear change

this is normal to some extent to try and warm up the tranny to opp temperature as soon as possible. make sure the vehicle had the latest software installed in the transmission as this could also cause a delayed shift when cold.

Bmw e46 steptronic box, up to 1 minute delay in taking up foward drive in the morning from cold. perfect in reverse, fine for the rest of the day.

How old is the gearbox oil? In some cases, older oil (higher viscosity when old) will be too "thick" in colder weather and inhibit the synchro on your gears from slipping into 1st gear. The reason it only happens in 1st, is 'cause the shifting mechanism on the forward change is finer than that of the reverse change.

POSSIBLE Solution: Replace the gearbox oil with a lower viscosity ie. "thinner" oil.
