A BMW 325 i i was driving and i just lost power as if it were running out of gas but i have a 1/2 tank now it just cranks but will not start

Could possibly be the fuel pump within the fuel tank or the balance pump wich is also in the tank. the tank is split in 2 to make way for the propshaft so the one pump has to pump fuel over to the other side for the main pump. i would take off the air intake pipe and pour a bit of fuel down the intake manifold and swing it if it fires you know you are on the right track.

My 2004 BMW 325 ci convertible is difficult to start.

If the fuel filter has been replaced, then maybe these are other reasons:

1. intake camshaft sensor (known to go bad on BMW E46s). ~$100 part.

2. fuel injectors (though I doubt they go bad that easily). ~$100/ piece. Your car has 6.

3. Ignition coils. ~$90 a piece. Your car has 6.

4. mass air flow sensor. Again, another expensive part. ~$300.
