Need to lock my '97 expedition into two wheel high so I can remove the front drive shaft

lost the user guide, it covers all that in glove box
is is free here in USA google the users guide and bingo.
RWD opts if even allowed is there. in said book

the manual (ours) shows 3 dial settings,

Have a Kawasaki 4010 side by side Lost rear wheel drive for forward motion but front wheels will still drive and both front and rear will drive in reverse

Possible electric clutch? If it is a clutch and has separate forward and reverse clutches, the forward clutch, control wire or clutch actuation magnet could be loose or bad. Good luck.

Why do I only have rear wheel drive in my 2003 Ford Explorer . The 4x4 doesn't work at all

It is nearly impossible to drive a true four wheel drive on normal roads because the front wheels travel further than the rear wheels there is soon wind-up between the axles and one wheel must be jacked from the ground to release it so a little further can be driven.

It is for that reason such measures as an overrun clutch is used in the drive to the front or a viscous coupling to the rear, effectively making road cars into part-time 4 wheel drive vehicles. In the case of the former the front wheels will only drive noticeably when traction is lost to the rear. This makes it difficult to check whether there is drive to the front.

Raising the rear of the vehicle on level ground, using a wheeled trolley jack and then gently attempting to drive forward will soon prove whether there is drive to the front wheels.

If there really is no drive the fault is likely to lie within the transfer box or any electronic control system and more research will be needed.

Why does my 4 wheel drive not work all the time?

not work, do tell what makes you think it dont work (a lamp) or tires slipping or dead tires. (by tires mean that and traction)??????????

what mode fails, of the many, and where.???????



first off, we dont know what your tires are touching.

on road, or off road. pavement or ICE or snow.

that matters big time . (you read manual and match MODE to Road)

your lost operators guide explains all that, right?

eg: how and when to use, 4wd, its all there. I promise.

In 4A mode the center differential is electronically-controlled and rear drive wheel bias. The on-board computer monitors for any sign of rear drive wheel slip (loss of traction)

If loss of traction is detected, the center differential is told to send a share of the engine\'s torque to the front drive wheels. It will not let the front driveshaft turn at the same speed as the rear driveshaft.



What about traction management?

1997-2002 model Ford Expeditions offered an optional limited-slip rear differential (LSD). A conventional open rear differential was standard along with the conventional open front differential and the electronic locking center differential.

1774 and 1775

There is probably no need to contact the BAR though you always have the right reserved. Trouble Code P1774 indicates your Mini's rear wheel speed sensor lost its signal, and trouble code P1775 indicates the right rear wheel speed sensor lost its signal as well. Both more than likely triggered during the dynamometer portion of the smog check inspection; while the front wheels are turning and the rear wheels are stationary. During this time, as far as the ABS system knows, the rear wheel sensors have lost their signals.
After a computer reset and driving your Mini Cooper for a few miles everything should return to normal, as apparently they have; and you've passed the smog check. Should the check engine light return in the near future for the same trouble codes P1774 and P1775 we'd recommend inspecting the rear wheel speed sensors for possible debris build-up. Since these trouble codes where triggered during the smog check and smog check machine failure we can assume the trouble codes were temporary and not related to any physical problem with your Mini Cooper.

Lost rear traction on 03 Impreza AWD

I have the same car. Mine is automatic. What is yours?

Possible scenarios:

1/ Is the FWD on the dash panel lit up? This will tell you that only the front wheels are engaged without power to the rear wheels. The manual tells you if you have a flat tire in your car, you have to make it into a FWD by inserting a fuse in your fuse box. Check and see if the circuitry isn't shorting out your awd which is making it fwd.

2/ Because the car has open diffs in the front and rear axles, you (or your friend) might see only the front wheels spinning and not the rear wheels. The power is transfered to the wheel with lowest resistance. With the front wheel spinning, one of the rear wheel(s) should also spin. Might not be a solution but maybe you can't see the rear spinning wheel because it's spinning on the other side.
