Engine oil for 1994 Lincoln Town car

No engine Oil RESET:

I have had & serviced a 2000 Lincoln & 2004 Lincolns....
(and the FACTORY WORKSH MANUALS FOR EACH)

clean the area , than run the engine to see exactly where is the leek, i dont think anything is missing
if its leeking from the sensor, change it

How do you know? Could be the oil cooler (where the oil filter bolts to the engine)

from mean from the grill or the hood and the front panels gap?? smoke or steam?? steam is your radiator is leaking a very fine mist and looks like smoke. smoke is youre buring oil from an oil leak somewhere the engine. good luck

FIRST press and release the setup button to display oil life= xxx
then press and hold the reset button for about 2 sec it should then display oil life set to 100%

Just pressing the reset button when the change oil light comes on while driving will not reset the computer

is it blue or black smoke?
if its blue smoke you have a worn engine / overfilled oil....
if its black you may have ignition trouble/ fuel mixture problem...
test the sparkplugs and ignition leads first... check the oil level...
if you have any oily sparklugs i would suspect piston ring problem, or valve wear - could be time to install oil control rings (if applicable)

Black plugs would indicate an over-rich mixture or poor spark... replace the HT lead assoc. with the blackened plug, and the spark plug itself.. this may sort your problem for a few bucks.
If it's a piston ring or valve problem you need to overhaul the engine - or if you just want to pass the inspection then deal with the problem later you could use an oil additive such as STP "stop smoke", this thickens your oil and reduces the amount that will get past the pistons into the combustion chamber, in some cases it pretty much solves the problem - especially if the engine is in good condition apart from worn rings... But overhaul is always best, its upto personal choice in that respect and the size of your wallet.

Most common cause of stalling for Lincolns in that era is the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). It regulates fuel mixture, idle speed etc. A bad TPS will usually act up in one of two ways:

1. When cold, car continually stalls
2. When warm, car stalls when slowing down (especially if AC is on)

As far as valve cover oil leak, it's a problem that should be addressed to keep oil from fouling your spark plugs but highly unlikely to be the cause of your stalling problem. Hope this answers your question. All the best.

an engine needs three things to start andrun; fuel, spark, and compression. The non-starting may or may not be related to the previous oil situation. The oil light came on because it lost oil pressure. If it lost oil pressure and it's a well worn engine to start with, it might not have enough compression at the rings to start. If it doesn't have enough to start, it'd barely run if you somehow did get it started. It may not start because of some totally unrelated problem like fuel or spark. The only way to find out is to have a technician troubleshoot it. Good luck.
