How do I change a front marker light on a 89 GMC PU

There are a few different models, but the general procedure is the same. There should be Phillips screws holding in the plastic lens cover which are accessible from the outside of the vehicle. Unscrew these, and the lens should pop out to give you access to the rear. The wires to the bulb socket will come out with the lens. With the lens removed, the bulb socket is usually attached to the back with a half-turn twist. So, untwist the bulb socket and remove the bulb and socket from the lens. Now, push down and twist the bulb to the left in a simultaneous motion and the bulbe should pop out. You'll probably have some grease on the bottom of the bulb, which is dielectric grease to keep the contacts from oxidizing.

Take the bulb to your retailer and match the number on the brass base of the bulb to a new one. Installation is just the reverse of the removal.

Incidentally, some car and truck models have an alternate arrangement where you remove the bulb socket from inside the engine compartment (or trunk) and removal of the lens isn't necessary. If you don't see screws accessible from the outside of the lens, then pop the hood and see if you can reach your hand inside to where the bulb socket attaches to the lens.
