You have more then 1 motor mount some cars even have 3 even 4. And at least 1 transmission mount some have 2. So that being said which mount are you looking for. The mount is a rubber mount with 2 bolts or studs on each end. They hold the motor to the frame or crossmember. There are also dog bones. Which stabilize the twisting of the engine. The engine mounts are most times at the front of the engine left and right.
The alternator will be somewhere on the front of the engine. IE/ being an "east west " engine, look to the side of the engine as the engine is mounted sideways. Follow the drive belt and you will find it.
I always fix these vibrating focuses by changing the motor mount on the right front (passenger side here in canada) BUT IT MUST ONLY BE A NEW FORD OEM MOUNT!!! No other will remove the vibration.Fixed 68 so far with this fix.
asuming your engine is running as intended. it is very common for the Cocus rear engnie mount to gather stones and other debris, allowing the vibrations to transmit around the rubber mouinting. the rear engin mount is located at the bottom of firewall, just above the power stering rack, towards center of vehicle (side to side). if you se debris in there, clear it out and you should b ok..if not it is possible one of the mounts themselves have failed. you can check that by using a prybar and trying o seperate the mount in half. hop this helps you!
1 motor mount right front side, then there's a trans mount left front & torque strut mount. I checked out a nice Poly set (eng & trans) on eBay at about 28.00 includes shipping. Item #170433115996
I had the same exact problem with my 2003 Focus with 108,000 on it. Making right turns and accelerating was even worse. Had many ideas from differant mechanics saying it was wheel bearing, steering rack, loose heat shields, transmission...ect. Well after having wheel bearing replaced and steering rack replaced, the grinding was still there. It was finally discovered that the noise was coming from a bad motor mount on the right side. Had the dealer replace the motor motor mount and finally!!! the problem was solved. Thank God.
you need to jack that side of the engine up. take the right side motor mount bolt loose then jack the engine up from underneath. be sure to use a block of wood or somthing so you dont bust the oil pan
