Ignition switch may be bad not cutting electricity to car when shut off. the way the ignition switch works, is that when car is shut off, there should be no electricity going through it. if in doubt or ya need help, go to any auto parts store and buy a haynes manual, they are based on a complete teardown of car for about 20.00, make sure you buy one for your make and model and year vehicle.also check main ignition fuse in fuse box.

Testimonial: "Thank you for the suggestion. As of today, the vehicle is refusing to duplicate its symptoms, but we will keep trying to isolate the problem. "

Tail lights not working, bell for lights left on or key in ignition sounds when exiting vehicle.

You have a problem with the loom ( the vehicle wiring system)
Frankly it sounds really costly- flip it!

I have a 1999 saturn sl1 and my tailights and dashlights quit working. i changed the fuse and it blew. so i changed the fuse again and it lasted about three minutes before it blew again. where do i start...

Okay, these are hard to find. I assume you have no problem when you do not have the Tailights on? This would mean problem could run all the way to rear taillights.

But if the problem is not related to putting power through the wires to the taillights it is under the dash area. You would have a short from the power supply to the lightswitch. You have a Relay for the lights in the Powerbox.

Go to Autozone.com Website and register your vehicle for a free wiring diagram and Powerbox layout.

You can then see for yourself about how the dashlights are grouped with the taillights. You could have a bad Relay.

Look at how the taillights get their power and this will show you a color/coded path from the front to rear of your car. As I said earlier, it is important to know if the lights only short when they are turned on by the headlight switch.

If they short out all the time, regardless of the headlight switch being on or off, then the short is more towards the front, between the dash and Relay or the Relay itself.

Use the built-in cutoff points as a way of eliminating the shorted part. The headlight switch is a cutoff point. Power rearward is halted with the except of the Brakelights. If the Brakelights work fine, the bulb sockets are probably grounded properly.

If the fuse pops with the headlamps off, the power is not going rearward and you are okay.

The headlights, tailights, dashlights, and interior lights have quit working after the battery was replaced.

dodge uses a computer module in drivers kickpanel that send the power to all the headlights, taillights, amd dash lights. pull computer plugs out and look for corrosion, this is common. if corroded the clean it all away andreplace module

Both tail light do not work but the brake light and back up do

Hi, check fuse 6 inside the Jeep. If the fuse is good, try swapping the relay with a similar one. If this doesn't work, please get back to me for instructions on how to interrogate the relay socket.

Lost all electical power to my ignition. My alternator bracket broke and the alternator fell off.I lost all electical power to my ignition. no dashlights, brake lights, heater, 4 way flashers, starter power,...

Man thats a strange deal, If I were you I would try to find a junk yard that would let you pull the parts you need to trpair yourself. That way you can see what is mising and be able to get all the parts at once.

Good Luck getting things back in place
