Your system is airlocked.You should have a bleeding screw at the top of the engine if not loosen a top hose and let air out then close making sure water supply is topped up .adrian;;;;

How to replace the coolant temp sensor on a 1993 mercury cougar

This takes a deep well socket, and a little anti-seize on the threads.

Just remove the sensor, lube, and screw in a new one...then hook up your wire and your done.

Over heating 2001 Mercury Cougar 2.5 manual

is it losing water? if not is your fan kicking on? if losing water, place piece of cardboard under veh at night to help pinpoint where water is leaking. if not losing water and fan does'nt come on check fan relay. if loses water and don't see leak over night on cardboard, then water pump is leaking thru weep hole but only after heats up and pressure is on need to replace water pump.

I have a 99 mercury cougar, I am not getting any heat and the oil guage is reading in the red zone

Check that you have the full amount of anti-freeze in the expansion tank AND that it tests to -34 degrees below zero Fahrenheit.Weak anti-freeze allows boilover and then your heater won't work when level is low or it air locks.ALSO,your thermostat can be stuck shut and that will cause the above problem of boilover.
This boilover can break down your oil by the engine overheating.So check your oil level and change your filter. don-ohio

2002 mercury cougar little to no heat problem just flushed radiator still no heat

flushing out the radiator just cleans the radiator if your not getting any heat you will have to locate the 2 hoses that go into the firewall and either remove them from the moter or the fire wall and using a garden hose flush the heater core out.

1999 mercury cougar. won't start...cranks...battery ok.

V6 ? 4CYL? Have you verified SPARK? Did anyone check the "fuel pump inertia switch?" Its in the right front kick panel. If it was a "Anti-theft Issue" the light would be on or flashing.
