I have an 83 bmw that turns over but won't start there is power in to the coil and out I have fuel but still no spark I replaced the rotor tried it nothing I mechanic buddie said you need a distributor so I tried to order one there isn't even one on it so I am still confused and don't know what to try next
does the ign.coil have spark coming out of coil wire? check the neg side of the coil with a test light and see if the light flashes when the engine is cranked over.if no flashing light the points in the dist. may be closed and need to be filed and adj. if you have a solid state ign. in the dist. the pick-up may be the problem. check some of the foreign car suppliers on line you may find a dist.and yes you shoud have a dist.that is what holds the ign. rotor and dist. cap.i hope this was helpful.

1993 ford Escort wagon has some banging noise from rear of vehicle when driving over bumps on the road. It seems worse when weather is cold and car is not warmed up. There is only90000 miles on this car ,but I am thinking it is time for new rear shocks/struts to be installed. What is the procedure to do this work safely and efficiently. Due to the age of the car, it may not be feasible to perform this task. Does any one have an opinion on this matter? Thanks.
