I need a schematic for rear drum brakes for a 2004 ford taurus because i had parts fall out of the rotor

If its a disc brake you can see the disc

Check your rear Emergency brake shoes inside the rear rotors. When the brake lining falls off of the metal backing, the linings get ground up inside the rear rotors. The pulverized lining coats the ABS count sensors and the vehicle thinks both rear wheels are turning at different speeds.

That is when automatic anti skid kicks in. The brakes try to stop the spin of the fastest wheel and intermittently applies the brakes.

Remember there are 2 sets of brakes on each rear wheel. The calipers are visible but the drums are concealed as part of the rotor housing.

How to Replace Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly on a 2nd generation Taurus

The following procedure is for a Ford Taurus (VIN S), with rear drum brakes and ABS.

1. Loosen wheel lug nuts, raise rear of vehicle, and support securely on jack stands. Block front wheels and remove rear wheels.

2. Remove brake drum (parking brake must be off).

3. Remove and clean ABS Sensor (Torx E8) with a spritzled rag.

4. Remove grease cap from hub.

5. Remove and discard hub retaining nut (36 mm). This is a compound nut, comprised of several nuts inside a metal cage. Use a 36 mm axle nut socket (e.g., OEM 25206). Many auto parts stores will lend you this socket. A 1/2-inch drive air impact wrench or breaker bar is necessary to remove the nut.

6. Remove wheel bearing/hub assembly from spindle. It easily comes off by hand.

7. Install new Timken Rear Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly, for Drum Brakes and ABS (Part No. 512162). Tighten new axle spindle nut (Dorman 05114) 221 lb.-ft., replace grease cap, and button everything up.

If you have rear rotors that look like a rotor mounted on top of a drum brake, you will have an emergency brake inside the drum portion. The rear brake rotors are not flat like the front rotors for this style.

The E brakes have brake shoes and they have "Star" wheels for adjustment just like the regular drum brake. You really need to take off the rear rotors to inspect the inner drum portion. If you do adjust the E brakes without looking at the drum part, chances are the drum is pitted and rusty and you will be lucky to stop once before the E brake linings are ground off.

The other type of E brake works off the Rotor pads. You will see the brake cable attached to a lever on each wheel. There will be an Equalizing cable connecting both rear wheels with an adjustment point joining the main cable. Although the 3 clicks moves the main cable, to have both rear brakes equally tight you need the Equalizing properly adjusted.

Those are the things you need to look for.

You will have to remove the brake drum or rotor if it has disc brakes and drive the broken lug out of the drum or rotor. Purchase a new lug from any auto parts store buying the exact same size and drive the new one in. Reinstall the tire/wheel and torque the lug nuts to 100 lb/ft with a torque wrench.

trere is a parking brake drum assembly attached to the rotor.you need to back off the parking brake shoes.

THERE IS AN ADJUSTMENT SLOT IN THE REAR BACKING PLATE POP OUT THE RUBBER PLUG AND WITH A SCREW DRIVER CRANK THE BREAKS OFF UNTILL YOU CAN REMOVE THE DRUM

The vibration is caused by the rotors being warped. Remove the front tires and check the front brake pads. Replace if needed. This is a pretty straight forward job. The rotors are "fall off" rotors and you won't need anything special tool wise.
