1989 Dodge B350 Fuel injected 5.9L Starts right up, runs alright. Then when you get up over 45mph, it starts to knock. You let off the gas & it stops knocking. Give it the gas, and it starts again.

Multiple choices - depending on how the engine power changes during the knocking...
If power remains, then your timing is too advanced. That could be caused by a bad chip or a bad initial distributer setting. (Check the engine timing).

If power lessens, they it is likely that you are running lean - due to a lack of fuel pressure. Causes: Fuel filter clogged, fuel pump failing, fuel pressure regulator failing.

Can think of no other causes. Check these and I suspect you find the fault and the cure.

1989 Dodge 318 CDI engine with Fuel injection. Motor stalls and surges when starting. Takes 15 mins to start. After warming up for 15 minutes will run better but still occasionally surges and stalls.

Questions here are better with full 'year make model' instead of generic '318'.

A few generic ideas.

  1. Check fuel pump pressure.
  2. Run injector cleaner through the fuel system 'Extreme Clean' is a good one.
  3. Clean the throttle body.
  4. Does it have a MAF (mass air flow sensor)?

More ideas here

With a full tank of gas starting first thing in the morning cold.. will run fine till about 15 to 20 miles then it starts cutting out as if it is out of gas.. untill it dies and wont start.. have changed...

Before you go any further wait till it stops again then check for a spark and if a spark then fuel ,then i might have a better idea ,keep reply on E mail and feel free to ask again anytime allowing for time zone difference

1989 dodge d150. truck will run fine for about 15 minutes then dies. I changed the fuel filter and it still dies. both injectors seem to be pumping fuel. so any ideas.

If you are sure right after the engine dies you have fuel I would think it was the coil going bad see if yiou have spark right after it dies. If you have spark squirt gas into the throuttle body and see if it starts

Car starts but dies right after.

So let me gets this straight : If you leave the fuse for fuel injection in the car will not run. But if you remove the fuse the car runs but has no power.

Ok you have a short in the fuel injection fuse circuit . This is back breaking work before I tell you how to do this let me know you can physically commit.

it starts from cold because the auto choke is on ,allowing a richer mixture ,try removing the sender unit in the tank and seeing if the connection from the pump to the outlet connection is ok or leaking causing a loss of fuel pressure
