Have a burning smell coming from back rear left side on my 98 Lincoln town car

Hi Laddybug:
I'd be suspicious that something is contacting the exhaust system.
If possible I would get the car up on a hoist )preferrable) or jack stands for an inspection.
Most muffler shops that I know would do a quick inspection, often at no charge. They make their money IF work needs to be done.
Hope this helps.

2003 Chrysler Town and Country Exhaust does it make a difference if the muffler is first and then the resonator last? that is what Midas did to my van and its louder now with the new exhaust

Yes, the muffler should be upstream of the resonator. In other words, from the engine, you have the catalytic converter, then the muffler, then the resonator is last, near the tail pipe. Possibly they installed the wrong muffler or resonator. The muffler will have the most effect on the sound you hear.

Ive been test driving Early 90's Lincoln town cars. Im looking to buy one. I notice that they all have the same problem. They seem like they want to die at stop lights or complete stops. Is this common on...

Yes your right they all suffer from this idle and the problem is the IAC, (idle air control) These engine are sensitive to vacuum leaks and cannot control unaccounted false air, a new IAC will solve this but get the updated one also check each injector look at the o-ring seal make sure they are not cracked and not missing.

To much oil was put in truck and now were told

To diagnos the catalytic converter, remove exhaust Y pipe from exhaust manifolds and start up. If engine runs goood and revs up, then suspect a restriction in your exhaust. Exhaust shop should be able to fix the problem. Cannot repair the cat converter. It is a honeycomb of metals inside that superheat the exhaust and burn off any unburnt fuel. When the honeycomb melts from contamination then it blocks exhaust air flow.
