I have 04 24valve cummins giving 2 codes saying injection pump metering A and the saying fuel rail pressure too high

2006 5.9L dodge mega cab 3500. (TURBO DIESEL)_? RAM 35500
did all that and failed to scan he PCM,(USA car) OBD2 spec.here.
why skip step 1?
Shops (most) fail to find problems that are gone as delivered.
most never drive it, at all, nor scan and drive. it. seems yours tired.
learn that to find intermittent problem we scan and drive.
if need be we use remote pressure gauge to see pressures fall.
is the fuel old and bad, not a full time DD, daily driver, and old fuel.?
new CP3 diesel fuel pump. at $600+ ouch,
what about fuel filters.?
fuel injection pressure regulator bad or fuel pressure sensor.
intermittent COMMON RAIL INJECTOR? (hard to test nor easy cleaned)
the fuel rail pressure can be monitored, if it drops you know why

2. Remove engine cover and bracket.
3. Evacuate A/C system.
4. Remove accessory drive belt.
5. Remove cooling fan and fan shroud.
6. Remove charge air cooler outlet hose to intake manifold.

8. Remove timing belt outer cover.
9. Using special tool VM.1055, remove high pressure injection pump sprocket retaining nut.
10. Install feet from VM.1067 in injection pump sprocket as shown.
11. Install inner flange of special tool VM.1067 on injection pump sprocket as shown. Secure flange to feet in injection pump sprocket with Allen bolts supplied with tool.
12. Screw the high pressure injection pump sprocket holding plate assembly into flange of VM.1067. Using left hand threaded bolt supplied, secure holding pl
13. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions section. CAUTION High pressure lines deliver diesel fuel under extreme pressure from the injection pump to the fuel injectors. This may be as high as 23,200 psi.(1600 bar). Use extreme caution when inspecting for high pressure fuel leaks. Fuel under this amount of pressure can penetrate skin causing personal injury or death. Inspect for high pressure fuel leaks with a sheet of cardboard. Wear safety goggles and adequate protective clothing when servicing fuel system.

17. Remove the EGR airflow control valve from the intake manifold.
18. Remove high pressure injection pump to fuel rail high pressure line.
19. Disconnect high pressure injection pump quantity control valve electrical connector.
20. Disconnect fuel supply and return lines at high pressure injection pump.
21. Remove alternator to intake manifold bracket.

21 Remove high pressure injection pump retaining nuts and remove pump.

Care must be taken not to bend the brake vacuum tube when removing high pressure pump.

In your case the pressure sensor is faulty and needs to be replaced. 1) Stores pressurized fuel (25 to 180 MPa) that has been delivered from the supply pump and distributes the fuel to each cylinder injector. A rail pressure sensor and a pressure limiter valve are adopted in the rail. 2) The rail pressure sensor (Pc sensor) detects fuel pressure in the rail and sends a signal to the engine ECU, and the pressure limiter controls the excess pressure. This ensures optimum combustion and reduces combustion noise. ---- Rail • The rail is mounted between the supply pump and the injector, and stores the high-pressure fuel. --------- Injector:-------- • This injector replaces the conventional injection nozzle, and achieves optimal injection by effecting control in accordance with signals from the engine ECU. Signals from the engine ECU determine the duration and timing in which current is applied the injector. This in turn, determines the quantity, rate and timing of the fuel that is injected from the injector. ------------ Rail Pressure Sensor (Pc Sensor) 1) The pressure sensor detects the fuel pressure of the rail, and sends a signal to the engine ECU. The sensor is made from a semiconductor that uses the Piezo resistive effect to detect changes in electrical resistance based on the pressure applied to the elemental silicon. Your truck needs to be hooked up to a scan tool so the common rail fuel pressure can be checked.
Have you checked to see if your fuel lift punp is operating to transfer fuel from your tank to the high pressure CP3 fuel pump?
Could possibly be the FCA (fuel control actuator) located on the back of the CP3 pump. It controls the fuel pressure in the high pressure fuel system.

Bad Injectors are also a known cause for no start on these trucks.

Do not unhook any fuel injection lines from the CP3 or Fuel rail or Injector cross over tubes while cranking or running as this fuel pressure varie from 4000 psi to 23000 psi when running.

The fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. All fuel injected vehicles made in the US have this location for the pump since 1985

There is a service bulletin for this condition.It has to do with a ceramic high pressure valve ball fracture inside the fuel injection pump,which may lead to internal pump damage resulting in low fuel rail pressure.This could contaminate the fuel rails and injectors with debris.The fuel pump will operate but with reduced output flow.The fuel injection pump will have to be replaced or repaired.Look and see if there are any repair shops that specialize in injection pumps.Hope this helps.Good luck.
