Transmission fault on early Jag XK8

''Gearbox fault'' on an early XK8 doesn't want to take up drive - then either jumps forward/stalls or gets going slowly -once moving then seems to behave more normally. What's this about torque converters being non good after 60K miles etc..?

I had similar problem but worse. Mine would not reverse uphill! I changed oil and filter in torque converter and solved the problem.

Did you correctly diagnose the trans problem in the first place? I think you need to get hold of the installer and see what they did or get a proper workshop manual. Have you a Jag specialist you could talk to? Or is he the one who rebuilt your trans?

1997 Jaguar XK8 "Gearbox fault" (Auto) doesn't want to go

I'm not familiar with the jag but my ford is similar( no dipstick). I'm led to believe these are designed to prevent overfilling, which can blow out the seals. I undo the top pipe which goes to my radiator to cool the trany fluid, then get a 1/2 metre length of plastic tube to fit between the disconnected pipe and a 1 litre bottle of fluid. I then squeeze the fluid in that way....no more than a litre at a time, then try driving it again..Hope this helps.

1998 S-reg jaguar XK8 drives perfect until reverse is selected then goes in to reduced performance mode. using a fault code reader fault code P1646 and P0706 were read.

Seems likely it is just a transmission cable adjustment needed. Please see my whole note (not a musical whole note) above under Clarification...

I'd go to this site and read the info... http://www.europeantransmissions.com/Bulletin/DTC-jag/Jag/307-01.pdf

GEARBOX FAULT MESSAGE for jaguar s 2001

Replace transmission and sell quickly. I bought 2001 s-type in October 2008. I have not been able to drive it. 1st thing was gearbox fault message which turned out to be transmission. Ford can rebuild cheaper. Next thing to happen was all seals needed replacing. Then all coils needed to be replaced. Coils keep going out. Needs new computer which has 8 year/80000 mile warranty on, but Jag would not honor ($3000). Needless to say my pretty jag sits in the driveway. Had to get another car. Went with Lincoln LS V8. GREAT car!

X-type jaguar automatic (gear box fault)

I have a 2002 X type (2 litre. done 44000 miles), dash showed gear box problem, (red circle light up). I pulled out and turned the engine off. 5 minutes later turned the engine on. The engine running but the car would not drive either in drive or reverse. Turned the engine off again and on the car driving but not much power. The care is taken to the Jag. dealer and told is misfiring + some gear box faults. Suggesting to change some coils and see (cost about £200+). also possible need to change the gear box costing about £2500+. Please advice. Shall I go ahead with the repair? Should I part exchange.

1999 Jag XK8 will not start. Cannot locate battery or terminals. Can you jump start with cables in order to get serviced without towing ?

The battery is either in your trunk or like the xj8 which is under the back seat, and yes you can jump start it when you locate the battery.
hope this helps
