Intake or exhaust? Really makes no difference. Nothing will hold on the exhaust due to the heat. Intake, best to replace it. Sorry and good luck.

I change the distribuator cap, rotor, and spark plug wires on my 1983 ford ranger 2.3 engine now when its warm the engine runs wide open can you tell me why it does that?

you may have a leak in the intake manifold which is acting like the throttle being open-look for a crack or loose bolts on the manifold to the head- cheers Denny

you need to inspect vacuum lines for being lose cracked,or disconnected.hose will run from engine
intake manifold through firewall into the dash.i'd start at intake manifold looking for bad hose

Leak from 2001 Ford ranger Water Intake Manifold - There is an aluminum part coming out of the manifold on top of the engine that is leaking. It is not on the rubber hose but on the metal part that...

The piece you are describing sounds like the thermostat housing. These housings are normally bolted to the manifold, so you can simply unbolt it. If it is cracked, you will need to replace it. If it is not, you can replace the gasket underneath it and reinstall it.

Linking out of the thermastat

If the thermostat housing is leaking it could be a bad gasket, a cracked thermostat housing, or a crack in the intake manifold where its bolted on. Cheapest and easiest option would be to get a new gasket and a thin layer of blue permatex.

1994 ford ranger extended cab 6 cyl fuel injected 2 wheel drive automatic

This year of ranger had a few flaws, In one case, a break power booster was robbing the vacumm, you can test this by plugging it off and seeing the differance, but you will have limited brakes. This model year had a problem with a vacuum leak on the manifold. You can check these in many ways, but please don't use starting fluid. The rear of the manifold usually on the drivers side where it seals to the block.
Also, in 2 other cases a cracked head has gave me the same problem. It is caused from a loss of vacuum.
