As long as the lighst etc are off, this is usually the tumblers in the ignition key part. Normally the key completes the circuit to ground causing the chimes to sound. However the door has a switch in it also that needs to open the circuit when the door is shut: Keep that in mind, (door switch).
Hello, it is the ignition switch itself. The keyed part, not the electronic part of it. On the tumbler, there will be a wire connected to it. That is the wire for the key in ignition indicator. Make sure there is no damage to wire and its plugged in all the way. Sometimes excessive use of the tilt steering will damage the wire where it comes up the steering column but 90% of the time its the keyed ignition switch. Hope that helps.
Check all the switches if there switched off especially cars with fog lights it will be giving a warning the lights are still on that drains the battery
Make sure your Battery is fully charged. A partially charged Battery can make the alarm system malfunction. Also, make sure the
regulator is charging the Battery. Some key alarm systems can
and will drain your battery if the Car is rarely driven especially
if there is a ignition kill switch wired into the system. The key alarm
system on my Mercedes 560SL used to drain my battery whenever
I didn't drive the car enough.

If this is a factory alarm try using the the key in the door lock and turning the door lock manually. I have seen this issue in chrysler models as well. If this does not work try replacing the batteries in the key fob as this will cause falfunctions as well.

There should be a relay under the hood for the security system, if you can not find it, try jacking the front of the car up, it should have a sensor that tells it that it is being towed and should turn off, unless of course it has a bad wire that is grounding out.

You should have a switch under the dash and then just turn it to the off position. If you don't or it doesn't work (like mine) then, there is 2 fuses under the dash, put the key in the ignition and turn it forward, pull one of the fuses out and then start the car that should reset it. Then you should be able to put the fuse back. Sometimes if you put the fuse back before starting it the alarm will just continue to try and reset itself, but not start the car. If that doesn't work I have a mechanic who can pull the whole alarm out and when hes done it would look like nothing has ever been installed. Hes very good. I ended having him take my alarm out when I had the same incident happen after the 2nd time.

usually after opening the door you can deactivate the alarm by pushing th unlock button or simply insert keyy in ignition and turn it on.

yeah. disconnect the battery, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the ON position. leave the driver's side door open, and reconnect the battery. the alarm will chirp a few times while you're putting the battery back on, but this SHOULD work.
you might as well go ahead and take the battery out of the remote for the alarm as well, to make sure its not setting your alarm off as well. you can replace the battery in the remote once the battery is reconnected in the vehicle. the remote might need to be reprogrammed if the alarm goes off again, otherwise its time to go to the toyota dealership!
!!WARNING!! make sure the key isnt in the position to START the vehicle, you just want the key ON. make sure that nothing else in the vehicle is on, and also, be VERY careful when reconnection the battery, as it will spark when it makes its connection. if you have been charging the batter a lot, make sure to give the battery time to cool down, because when car batteries get hot, they emit hydrogen, which is explosive. this IS a risky move, but is the only thing you can do, unless you either install a kill-switch or charge the battery and drive to the dealership while the alarm is going off. sometimes, when you start the vehicle, the alarm will stop, but im assuming this isnt your case.
