Possibly an internal failure of the reverse switch. The blown fuse is for both the reverse and the turn signal lights. The fix is replacement of the reverse switch.

SOURCE: My rear wipers, rear washer and rear defrost stopped working. I have changed the fuses. what else would cause these 3 to stop?

I had the same problem, 97 4 runner. I followed #1 solution: start engine, lower rear window, raise/close rear window. Turn off engine, restart engine and it should re-set. It did for me.

Google

year make model blows number (?) fuse in reverse

It is likely to be the reverse switch that activates the reversing lights, or frayed shorted wires in the trunk.

What would cause a a 40 amp ignition fuse to blow when I put my 1998 GMC Jimmy into drive

First try starting the vehicle in neutral. Then put it in drive. If it does not burn the fuse then put it in reverse. If the fuse blows then there is a problem with the back up light system,

Why does my 95 chevy 4x4 diesel keep blowing fuses when i put it in reverse

You can rule out internal transmission wires. The only thing I know of would be the reverse light wiring. You have one power wire to the neutral switch. So when the lights are supposed to come on the fuse blows the turn signal . You said you check the wiring, Did you check for continuity? High resistance cause a higher amperage draw. Also did you check the hot wire for short to ground? Try leaving the engine off. No lights on. Put it in reverse, see what lights come on. Have someone stand in back and watch as you put it in reverse. The lights should flash for a split second before the fuse blows. If any other lights come on, you have lost ground to the reverse lights.

1992 chevy s10 no brake lights or turn signals

Check the front and rear (although probably the rear) turn signal bulb socket for corrosion and/or water intrusion. If you find corrosion attempt to clean (but you will probably have to replace the socket and bulb). For water intrusion you will probably have to replace the break lamp assembly.

Wiring Issues

Thank you for allowing me to assist with your problem.
Regarding your fuse issue, there may be a couple of things to look for...the first thing that I would look for is corrosion at the wiring harness connector under the bed that feeds the rear taillamps. Salt, water intrusion and the like can cause these contacts to oxidize, and the oxidation can spread across the teminals, shorting out to the ground wire in the same connector. Most noticible in the "snow-belt" states, or if you put boats in water. Check for corrosion in this connector, if it is OK, please get back to me for other info.
