An automatic 2002 Mazda Millenia V6 2.5L is stuck in part. I has intermittent problems going from park to reverse or drive. Although the break is pressed when trying to move into reverse or drive, the shift stays stuck in park. I can use the shift lock override to get the car moving, but I want to find a cause for the problem.
When you experience this problem, check to see if your brake lights are coming on. It could be as simple as a brake light switch malfunction. If the brake lights are functioning as the problem is occurring then you could for example have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid.
