SOURCE: whistling noise under the hood of my Honda civic.

Thhis noise could be a mutitude of issues. If you have some dash board spray, try spraying some on the top pully staying away from the fans and belts. Also position your face away from the expected spray. Water can be used but it not as affective. Then let me know what happened. Later DRRXR :)

SOURCE: high pitch whistling noise in engine compartment of 2005 envoy

There may be a small hole or cut in a vacum line or possibly just loose. Also make sure the air filter box and the big hose to it are secure and clamps etc are tight. Pulleys and belts can make a high pitch sound also.

SOURCE: VW GOLF 1.4 1999 S. Gearbox makes whining sound at idle

No good news on this one I think
Your whining sound problem is the Layshaft bearings in the gearbox are badly worn. It also seems that the baulk rings are damaged on 5th gear.

SOURCE: hi my rx8 is makin a grinding noise from the

What?! Really! The noise goes when the clutch pedal is depressed! So the noise goes when the release bearing (throw-out bearing) is engage? So how would that be a release bearing/clutch problem? If it didn't make a noise until the clutch pedal was depressed, it would be the release bearing! In other words its the input shaft bearing and/or counter shaft bearing in the gearbox. Whistling Noise whilst driving

As with all unusable vehicle noise complaints it is important that the noise be listened to first hand, so have a shop test drive this with you on board to point out the noise to them when you hear it start in your vehicle

Constant speed howling noise from underneath 2003 Volvo S60 (base)

Open the oil filler lid and see if the noise goes away - or lift the oil dip stick. It could be a gummed up PCV system that causes pressure in the crank case that "whistles" when the engine is running.

By opening the lid or dip stick, you're letting the pressure out and the whistling should stop.

If this is the issue, FCP Euro has a PCV replacement kit for about $350.

I know this original question was written quite a few months back but I was wondering if you ever found out what the high pitch sound was. I just purchased a used 2005 Honda Odyssey and it is doing the exact same thing. Any advice?

I have a 1996 Ford Explorer that has a vacuum or intake leak. I can hear a high pitched whistling sound that goes up and down with the throttle while going down the road. It also gets a low pitched hum...

best way to find a vac leak is get a can of engine start, with the engine running spray it around the intake but not into it, be carful not to get any on the exhaust. If there is a leak the engine revs will increase due to the engine start being sucked in.
