How to trouble shooting tail light 2013 mercedes benz.

The right rear light completely works until the headlights come on, or I turn the day-time running lights off. It appears to be an electrical issue or perhaps a fuse.

SOURCE: 1993 Mercedes Benz 300E, right rear squeak

Common causes for High-pitched noise from rear wheels are:

The wheel bearing: this is not usually dangerous in the short term, but I recommend contacting a mechanic and having it fixed. To test the wheel bearing, you lock front wheels, and jack up the car rear and spin the wheel (handbrake unlocked). If bearing is worn you hear a drone. When is the bearing, often car starts vibration above 40 mph.
Noise from bearing can be continuous, intermittent, only when steering, only when hot.

The brake pads: when brake pads are worn out they start making a squealing noise, in this case the noise is only when you brake or continuous. When you jack up the car the wheel may be a little stiff, but not necessarily. When brake pads are completely gone you also hear a scratching noise when braking. Inspect your brakes immediately.

Other suspension problems: Jack up the car as suggested above, check if the wheel has a slight play on the sides. Check all of the suspension components, suspension mounting points, and steering linkage for damage. Also, check the frame rail for wrinkles. It is very important that these components be in good condition, if you notice any problem here, go immediately to a mechanic.

Try doing the simple test above, reinstalling the wheel and working the tire back and forth. This is a common test for bad ball joints and wheel bearings.

SOURCE: tail lights and brake lights not working with headlights on

We had the same problem with ours, that is a Saturn recall items. Check with your Saturn dealer to see if it is still in effect. It use to make our headlight switch get hot. I think it was a poor ground in the taillight housing, I use to wiggle the bulb plug-ins and that helped for a while, but after the recall was fixed it never did it again.

SOURCE: 2001 VW Jetta rear running lights out. bulbs good, fuses good.

Almost sure it is a recall for a relay. Call the dealer, I had a 2001 VR6 with the same problem, and it was a simple, free recall.

Left rear tail light of my ML430 will not work when headlights are on. Break lights work. Have replaced bulb. Cant find the fuse.

Sounds like you have a bad ground on that side, if the other side works then it's not the fuse, it's also possible that the hot side wire is broken

Dose not work rigt side rear turn signal

Usual cause is the led panel in the tail light needing the complete tail light to be renewed. Have it renewed under warranty if you have extended the manufacturer warranty. If not it is possible the led panel can be repaired by an auto electrician. Usual cause is a diode failure.

I have a Mercedes E420 1997. I am having tail light issues, all the lights work turn sig., brake, back up, but no tail lights. I have changed out both rear tail lights, bulbs, and checked all of the fuses....

Check for power with a test light(not a dvom) at the tail lamp assembly. Test right at the spot where the bulb socket sits. If you have power then i would check the connection tab on the bulb socket itself for pits or corroded tabs. If you do not have power present at test point then double check the fuse chart and see if it says 'electronic' instead of having a fuse amp rating for the tail lamps. If it says electronic for any of the light circuits then it means their is no external fuse that can be replaced and the problem is most likely internal of the headlight switch. Since the headlight switch is actually a power source for the lights. I would start there at this point. Let me know what you find and if you need anything else just let me know

How to Adjust a Mercedes' Headlights

In the U.S. the type, adjustments, and illumination factors of all automobile lighting devices are regulated by the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108. The headlights must function and be adjusted correctly. Your high beams must disperse their beams straight forward and low beams down and to the right while safely providing illumination without too much or too little glare. It is wise to check the headlight adjustment on your Mercedes at least every year. Doing it yourself will save you time and money. It will also make driving safer for you and others you may meet on the road at night. All it takes is time, some basic tools and a little patience.

Things You'll Need
  • ratchet set
  • 1/4-inch screwdriver, at least 8 inches long
  • flashlight (if needed)
Show More Instructions
    • 1 Open the hood and prop it up.
    • 2 Remove components if necessary to allow access to the left/right and up/down adjustment knobs. They are on top of the rear side of the headlight. The upper knob adjusts the beam to the left and right. The lower knob controls up/down adjustments.
    • 3 Park with the passenger side of the car parallel to a solid fence or wall and about four feet from it. When there is dim light or darkness, turn on the lights and use your screwdriver to adjust the up/down knob on the passenger-side headlight until the light beam is parallel to the ground (you can see the beam of light against the surface of the wall).
    • 4 Turn the car so that it faces the wall approximately one car length away. Adjust the up/down knob on the driver-side headlight until it is at the same level as the passenger side headlight. Then adjust both sides until the small groove on top of the beam cutoff is directly in front of the light.
    • 5 Reinstall any components that you removed. Close the hood.
Tips & Warnings
  • This is method is generic for Mercedes models. Some may differ, as there are many models out there.

Mercedes tail lights and brake lights stopped working

I hope I'm wrong, but sounds like a wiring harness malfunction possibility. Back in the late 70's, I had a '67 VW van. At night, when I'd turn off the ignition the engine would turn off, as it should IF I TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS, BUT IF i TURNED THE LIGHTS BACK ON AS THE ENGINE WAS SHUTTING DOWN, THE ENGINE WOULD RESUME RUNNING.

Right rear tail light

My 99 SLK230 had the same issue. Looked into it and found that there was actually a recall on the tail light assembly because of this exact problem. Granted it was the driver side tail light but you may have the same issue. Hope it helps!
