My check engine soon light came on. I have 2005 X3 3.0i Any suggestions?

crank sensors fail on these very frequently,causing running issues. if service engine soon light is on, then your mechanic should be able to pull something from computer. sounds to me like he doesn't know what he is doing. get your self a new mechanic. that light doesn't come on just for fun. it comes on to tell you that there is a problem. if a throttle body is an issue, he should have pulled P0507 ICS system. If so, there may be an issue with the throttle body. have seen few with computer issue causing throttle body code, but those are rare. most likely throttle body, but depend on code number.

A faulty egr would not create a high idle issue. if an egr valve were to open while idling then it would create a heavy stumbling engine or it would die right out. if there is a check engine light on (or service engine soon light) have the codes pulled. Failing that then I suggest taking it to a reputable shop

90% of the time a check engine light comes on it's the O2 sensor.

Check engine light comes on and off, these are indication that there is some error code stored in your vehicles ECM. The engine module computer needs to be scanned. These will give the code and as per the error code the further problem can be detected and confirmed. The engine light indicator blinks or remains steady on dash when engine computer noticed any problem with any engine electrically operated components.

check engine light is orange, it will say service engine soon or check engine right on it.

That was the problem this is called a logic box the visor is connected fuse that control window and radio,

Usually takes quite a few starts before it will erase/reset itself, such as 50 on some vehicles. Can always return to autozone and ask to scan and erase, then see if it comes back.

Service engine soon light is a warning light .(same as check engine light)
Indicates problems with the emission components and powertrain managing system.

would not think so need to have the system scaned to get trouble code

You need to have access to a code reader to turn the light off.  The best/cheapest way is to go to a local auto parts store and most of them will read the code for you for free and then turn the light off.  I would strongly suggest taking the code to see what might be wrong though.  Good luck.
