SOURCE: i have an 85 amc

you need to put a chevy alternator with a built in regulator on it.
You need a 3 wire alternator. Two wires go to the battery and one wire goes to anything connected to the ignition switch.

SOURCE: 1991 ford festiva replaced alternator new

it is part of the alternator actually on a lucas unit, a small black box bolted to the rear of the alternator.

You may have a faulty ignition switch or a corroded engine earth cable causing the alternator not to reach charging voltage.

SOURCE: does the Galant have a

Doesn't have an external regulator, If battery is reasonably fully charged it doesn't need 25A + of a charge . Put on your rear window de-mister and headlights and check voltage before and during test !
Good Luck

SOURCE: the new alternator will not

I would check fuses and relays first..Check the voltage coming off the alternator on the big red wire,,instead of across the battery..Some cars still use a fusible link..You would no that if you have charging voltage at your alternator but not at the battery..Should be 14.0 volts or close to it..with no load

Taking the battery off a running engine will cause voltage spikes that can easily damage electronic parts, computers and such. Should never do that on modern cars, Ashley.
There must be a maxi fuse or a fusible link or even an in line fuse between the alternator and battery, if it's not charging. To fix it yourself, you may have to get hold of a wiring diagram for the charging system.
You can register for free at autozone.com, giving your make, model, year, and engine size. Quite a lot of repair information that is specific to your Taurus, including wiring diagrams. Look under the repair guides section, I believe wiring diagrams may be listed under "Chassis Electrical". Good luck.

2001 ford taurus power draining new battery & new alternater won't work when cables are removed from battery

That suggests that the problem is in the harness, something in the connector or wiring is causing an open circuit. You will need to have the circuit tested to find the fault. Ford alternators have known connector issues & new aftermarket connectors are readily available at most auto parts stores.

2002 ford taurus battery wont hold charge cant figure out if its the battery or alternator

While the vehicl is running with a meter ,,check the voltage across the battery you should have 13.5 to 14 on the meter..You can have the battery load tested at autozone or advance for free..If the battery is bad and you keep jumping it off,,you will burn up the alternator ..Also when its running do you see a battery light come on,,thats a indication thats its not charging

Have you checked the voltage coming out of the alternator with engine running? It should be 14-14.7. Maybe a faulty gauge.

The battery on our 2001 ford taurus sel keeps being drained.

Hi,

The problem should be from your alternator. The alternator charges the battery when the car engine is turned on. So, if your battery is being drained always, then it means your alternator is not charging the battery.

Have your alternator tested, in order to be sure its in good condition.

Best regards.

Has power but will not start or even turn over

Try cleaning your battery terminals,it sounds like there dirty and the alternator can not replace the charge in the battery because of the corroded cable connections.
You may have to put a good charge on the battery as well, and while your at it have the battery load tested to make sure it's up to par.
