I have a 98 Mazda millenia it will start but then dies

The alternator might be shot. It is what charges the battery and keeps the engine running while the car is on. There are many other things it could be, though. How does it sound? Does it slowly die, or suddenly cut out? Does it always start easily, or is it getting harder to turn over each time you start it?

Hooked up battery backwards. Then put it in right way. Car cranks but runs so rough you cant drive it. 1998 mazda millenia

That is because you have destroyed the engine's electronic control unit and heavens knows what other electrical systems on the car.

For sure you will need new starter (actually starter relay) (that is why there is no engine turn-over). I am not sure about ignition coil and alternator, well it depends. You can get them at Autozone.com
And in a worsest scenario electronic control module (ECM/ECU).
You can buy used here
http://www.sunfor.com/ecm_ecu.html
Below there is the electrical starting system scheme for your car.
You can get it on Autozone.com (just add new vehicle Masda 1998 Millienia and go to repair guide engine electrical starting system)
Hope that helps
Good Luck
P.S. Please kindly let me know if you need more info. I am here to help.
P.P.S. I would check with insurance they might cover the case

Battery not charging in Mazda Millenia year 2000

Sounds like a similar problem I had. I had a bad battery. Jumping the car and charger did not help. All instruments work as I am guessing the battery had enough juice to light those but not enough to start car. Either bad battery or alternator. I changed out the battery and everything was fine. If you have an aftermarket stereo or amp, make sure they are setup right. The amp may be drawing power even if radio and car is off which may attribute to low start power (including above suggestions).
