The '06 Sonata has a timing belt. No chain.
Go to a library or a car parts store and you can find a set of repair manuals that will show you the layout.
Either buy, rent or check-out the repair manual for your car to see what to do.
Oh, yes.
The misfire should not be the fault of the timing belt.
It should be a spark plug, a spark plug wire, or a coil pack, which is the ignition coil that fires the spark plug.
God bless your efforts.

Thanks for that. Apparently the tensioner is hydraulic and can fail?

Hi David what about oil pump can it be affecting the tensioner or the gauze on the siphon is blocked?

I understand the 2006 sonata has a timing chain and not belt but I see a belt of some kind on the engine, what is it?

Hi,
That belt you have seen is a balancer belt, used mainly to eliminate the engines vibration. Actually invented by Mitsubishi, as we all know Hyundai and Mitsubishi have common designs. Thus, all Mitsubishi patented design can have Hyundai's stamp on it!
Hope that helps you out!

What is the replacement schedule for 2006 hyudai sonata timing belt

Both engines .. the four and the six have timing chains.. not belts.. so there is no replacement for the life of the engine.

Some of the six cylinder models did have problems with a Timing Chain tensioner.. if you have the six and it makes a rattling sound when first started..that could be an indicator. There is a TSB (technical service bulletin) on this and it should identify which cars are affected.

Best of luck!

Does the timing chain should be changed and for how long?

timing chains should only be changed if there is noise or problem in that area. if it has a belt most belts need to be changed at 60,000 miles and some at 100,000. Engine damage may occur in many engines run with a timing belt that breaks.

A 2006 sonata 4 cyclinder does it have a timing belt or chain

If it is a chain then no it does not need to be changed. I would call the local dealer and give them the vin# to make sure 100% if it is a chain or a belt. Achain does have guides made of plastic that you may want to think about along with the tensioner. Good luck.
