Becky, you may be right, as they say, you may have stirred up the hornets nest. They did not really tell you to seafoam the motor pictured, did they?

seafoam is a gas treatment, not an oil treatment

SOURCE: Motor Oil leaks from 1999 Honda Civic EX

make sure they are tight
could be time for head gaskets
make sure the old gasket from the old filter came off the block sometimes they come off old filter and stick this causes a leak due to improper seal.

SOURCE: 1992 chevy siverado pickup 350 engine,I have a oil

you definately should check the oil pressure switch its probobly above or to the side of the oil filter and can make it look as if the filter is leaking,it will be threaded into the engnine itself and will have a connector on the top of it most likely with only 2 wires going to it

SOURCE: I had the valve cover gasket changed on my 1996

on a v6 ? Low on oil? rear cam plugs leaking? The lifters are on the end of the rocker arms and may get clogged. I have had some luck running 0w30 mobil synthetic for about a week or so with a new oil filter [Not a fram filter] and after that put 10w30 synthetic oil back in and a new filter. Check for oil leaking at other locations. If the noise is at the front of engine near water pump it may be the hydraulic timing belt tensioner.

SOURCE: my celica is burning oil

Your car is probably burning oil through the piston rings due to wear. The valve cover gasket will show signs of leaking from the space between the valve cover and the head. Remove one of your spark plugs and see if it is black and oily. You can try using a little thicker oil than what you have now or just add a little in as it burns off. Buy a quart of name brand 20w/50 and use that to top off the oil as it burns off. You should notice a difference.

With out me actually seeing your engine i can only say that it will be one of two things one being valve cover gasket oil cam seal hope this helps but you might consider taking it in to have it looked over if you can not located it by looking at it.

I HAVE A 1998 SATRUN SL IT STOP GOING IN REVERSE

These cars have a reverse slam problem usually....If you have no reverse , you may be looking at a new transmission. You can try cleaning the trans out with transmission sea foam. Put a new filter and fluid in the trans along with a can of sea foam. Set the parking brake, put the car in reverse for 30 min. If that doesnt do it, It may be a solenoid. Not too hard to get to on these.

Ticking in the motor

Sounds like you have a lifter that is sticking. Purchase a can of Seafoam Motor Treatment at Advance Auto Parts, Walmart, and many other suppliers. I have used this product many times and it is fantastic. This is not a motor treatment such as some of the others you see advertised to improve mileage or stop oil burning. This is a legit product that many mechanics trust. To clean lifters, add 1½ oz. Sea Foam to each quart of oil. Sea Foam will slowly re-liquefy the old oil varnish residue that builds up on lifters and prevents them from functioning normally. This process can be done as part of a pre service cleaning by adding the Sea Foam to the oil at least 30 miles before the next oil change interval. OR it can be done as a preventative maintenance process without changing the oil. You can leave Sea Foam in the oil indefinitely as long as the oil is clean. The addition of a high-detergent oil like Sea Foam may cause the oil to become dirty faster than normal as buildup oil residue and contamination are cleaned. Check the oil at regular intervals and when it gets dirty, change it. http://www.seafoamsales.com/how-to-use-sea-foam-motor-treatment.html

Oil leaking into spark plug tube

I had this problem a few years ago. You will have to replace the valve cover gasket. It is easy to do and the parts are pretty cheap. I also went ahead and changed the spark plug wires and the plugs them selves while I was at it. It took me about 45 minutes to do. I also bought a Chiltons guide so I knew what I was doing. The valve cover gasket is your problem though.

QUESTION: I have a 97 Saturn SL 2 179,000 miles

You need to change your ECTS and it's connector if it has gunk and corrosion in it. Change the ECTS to the brass tipped one and get rid of the plastic tipped one in the car.

Also change your Thermostat which is located inside the lower radiator hose on the engine block. Sounds like your car is running itself rich because it thinks it is cold and flooding itself (hence the full throttle which is a "clear flood mode" and shuts off the injectors while starting).
