Richard, if your saying pump will not start after running dry, it is probably seized or burnt out.

HHO failed, and x,z,y.
even the match book cover, showing "turn water to fuel" fails.
im pulling your leg,

running out of fuel , likes to burn up fuel pumps.
they are fuel cooled and fuel lubricated. so dont do that. or $$$$$$$
after you ran it dry, the pump can fail, or have hard time priming.
long cranking to get the full system primed.
is engine running ok?, you failed to say that important fact...so.....
if engines ok?
does car go fast in 1st gear, fact 2 missing.....so...........???
wont shift can mean , tranny slips or wont go to 2nd, 3rd gear.???
which is it? slips? so skips?
or shifts late?
or shift too early.?

id reset the tranny TCM. (brain)

one way is to pull the battery neg cable for 5 min.
wait and put it back
all TCM have learn mode. so drive and teach it how you drive.
newer cars , 1trans, fists vast number of cars so it has an

Ran out of petrol now it wont start

prime it.
try key on 10 time? (on, off, on....)
if the pump dont run keyon,(1/2 cars down) then it must be cranked to prime,or on some cars there is a DLC connector under hood
for pump hotwiring for just this. (oops 2000 dont have it...)
btw : the pump is fuel lubricated and cooled with fuel so you might have fused it (melted it guts out ) running it dry. dont.

id use a pressure gage to see if i could get spec pressure now.
alldata.com has the steps here.

check 12vdc to fuel pump
check all fuses. #13 and #31

Ran out of engine oil and after i refilled, it wont start

I the engine ran completely out of oil, the engine has been cooked and is probably locked up from the friction between unlubricated metal moving parts. Also may have spun bearings which means the main or rod bearings stacked on top of each other causing the engine to lockup. If you ran the engine without oil until it quit you will probably need a new engine.

Ran out of gas on my 2003 kia spectra and it wouldnt start anymore after filling up? at first when i turn ugnition on the fuel pump would prime, i was told i ran my pump dry so i took it out, put in a new...

There is probably an inertia switch to cut the fuel supply in the event of a collision. You should find location details in the vehicle handbook.

Unlikely running the pump dry for a short time will damage it. The pump is submerged in the fuel tank and should require little or no priming as long as it is receiving a supply, which must be tested while cranking the engine. The system could be tested by providing the pump with an independent supply.

While replacing the fuel pump or fuel gauge unit it is wise to thoroughly examine the inside of the fuel tank with a safe light. All sorts of things are found inside fuel tanks.

The fuel filter should also be replaced and it is wise to carefully cut open the original to examine what dirt and rubbish is trapped inside.

If all is good but there is still no fuel delivery can be checked by disconnecting the fuel supply pipe at the engine with a jug at the ready. In good order a litre in a couple of seconds can be expected.

I ran my car out of gas and put gas in it now it wont start

How much gas did you put in it? It is very possible that when you ran it out, that your fuel filter became clogged with the sediment from the bottom of the tank. Make sure there is atleast 5gal. of fuel in the tank. Turn the the ignition all the way forward and wait 3 seconds, but dont turn the engine over. Do this 5 or 6 times to get the fuel pump priming. Then try starting the car without pumping the gas pedal. If the car still wont start, check that the fuel system has pressure. Maybe something failed in the fuel pump when it went dry. You can have someone listen near or at the fuel tank to see if they can hear the fuel pump kicking on and off while someone turns the key on and off. Hope this helps.

Fuel pump working, got spark. Wont start after it ran out of gas.Throttle body is still dry after turning it over

When you first turn the key on, you should be able to hear the fuel pump for a couple of seconds If there is no sound, then look for a blown fuse or a bad relay. It is possible that the pump will not prime itself after being dry. Try starting the engine with a can of starter fluid. If it starts then dies, you will know the pump isn't working. Give it a couple of tries with the starter fluid just in case the fuel lines are full of air.

My explorer ran out of gas, i filled it up to about a half a tank, now it just turns over but wont start

if it's fuel injected, look on the fuel rail for a schrader valve--looks just like a valve stem on a tire but shorter.remove cap, again just like on a tire.turn key to on-push valve stem in as if to let air out if you get air, then gasoline, you have just bled the system.replace cap, start car.if you get no gas, remove gas tank cap, turn on key, listen for ""hum'' of fuel tank.no hum, check fuel pump.modern[plastic] fuel pumps will self destruct if run dry, even for a short time.

99 gmc wont start

check electric fuel pump operation ( located in the fuel tank ). Occasionally a fuel pump will burn out when running out of fuel, due to the fact the pump runs DRY for about 30 seconds till the fuel stops flowing out of the injectors, the engine quits, simultainously losing oil pressure which FINALLY shuts off the fuel pump. Sometimes TOO LATE. Hope this helps
