The car is in Limp Mode. It gives just enough to get you to a garage. The ECM deems the fault can seriously damage the engine and is normally a fault with one of the main sensors. The only way to diagnose is to connect a professional grade scan tool computer to the OBD2 port and read the DTCs (diagnostic trouble codes). They start with a 'P' and have 4 numbers.
do you have mil light on in dash? Its sounds like car in limp mode, so could be a sensor problem, i.e. like crankshaft sensor, etc, they could just be gunked up and you could get away with just cleaning sensors. Your best of taking it to a garage as they will have programs on laptop that will tell you what's wrong.
