If all of that fails, try a miniature butain torch aimed at the part of the block were the bolt threads into. Try heating around as much of the area as u can, moving bak&forth to heat evenly, do this may take 3to5 minutes. To ckeck temp i lick finger real good then touch area 1to2" away frm where i heated. If u get a sizzle, then its hot enough 4 an attempt. I found butain works better than propane, but not as good as oxy-acataline. These lil butains are also great 4 breaking bleader screws loose. Dont pretend its hot enough and make shure wires&combustables r outta the way. A buddy on fire watch, also hehpful. PS. If head of bolt is boogered up & wont grab frm thoes pliars, u can weld a socket or wrench 2 the head & proceed frm there. No weilder? Epoxy

SOURCE: can't get starter bolts loose to change starter

Hi blondie-68, They can be a little hard to break loose for sure,I am certain you know they are right hand thread, if you can using a flat punch or bar tap the head of the bolt a few times and try to break them again, if you can manipulate a snipe of some sort onto your wrench or ratchet this will give you the extra leverage required, could also try an air ratchet if you have one and if it will fit, just one of those annoying little jobs but with a little persistance you will succeed :) good like let me know how you make out take care

SOURCE: Battery Bolt Wont Come Off

PB blaster will cut corrosion better than wd-40 try that. If all else fails put a pipe on the end of the ratchet and turn.

SOURCE: How to removing starter from 1994 mercury sable?

I'm sure they are just stuck on there real tight. They get weathered under the car, and rusty. I don't think you would get them confused with the other parts. The best bolt breaker I have ever used is PB BREAKER . This can will make every bolt easier to get off like no other solution out there. Give it at least 1 hour. If it is still stuck, spray again and wait. It will work. Also, alternate between a breaker bar, and an impact wrench if you have them. Don't stress the wrench so it breaks or strip the bolt, it will loosen with repetition. I have not had 1 bolt stuck since I discovered PB BREAKER.
Good Luck!

I'm working on replacing my multifunction switch on my 1999 Chevy Suburban 5.7Ls and when I went to loosen the side battery cables the bolts are tight to where the bolt head is stripping

  1. Use a penetrating oil: Apply a penetrating oil like PB Blaster, Liquid Wrench or WD-40 to the bolt and let it sit for a few hours. The oil can help to loosen the corrosion and rust that is likely causing the bolt to be stuck.
  2. Use a different wrench or socket: If the wrench or socket you are using is slipping on the bolt head, try using a different size wrench or socket that fits more securely.
  3. Use a bolt extractor: A bolt extractor is a special tool that can be used to remove stripped bolts. It works by gripping the bolt from the inside and turning it counterclockwise. You can find bolt extractors at most auto parts stores.
  4. Use pliers or vice grips: If the bolt head is completely stripped, you can try using pliers or vice grips to grab onto the bolt head and turn it counterclockwise. Be careful not to damage the battery terminal while doing this.
  5. Heat the bolt: If the bolt is rusted or corroded, heating it up with a propane torch or a heat gun can help to loosen it. Be careful not to overheat the battery terminal or the surrounding area.

Tap and drill a broken water pump stud on a 1999 ford explore eddie bauer

ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT A STUD OR A BOLT? THESE MOTORS HAS 4 LONG BOLTS THAT GO THRU THE TIMING COVER , IF THIS IS WHAT IS BROKEN THEN YOU WILL HAVE TO REMOVE THE COVER, THE BOLTS GET CORRODED IN THE COVER AND OFTEN BREAK. IF THIS IS THE CASE THE COVER WILL BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO REMOVE AND WILL MOST LIKELY BE DESTROYED IN THE PROCESS. GOOD NEWS IS THE BOLT COMES OUT EASY ONCE YOU GET THE COVER OFF. GOOD LUCK, YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT!!

How do you remove a broken 8mm bolt in the thermostat housing? I have the thermostat housing apart, some of the bolt is showing, I just need to know the easiest way to get it out without tearing it up...

This is easy if you have enough of the old bolt sticking up. You will need a good sized hammer, a very good set of vise grip pliers (round teeth not the flat teeth type). Now hit the bolt end with the hammer hard, hard enough to flatten the top of the broken bolt, but not hard enough to break the T-stat housing. Then you can spray some wd-40 on the bolt. Now clamp the vise grips on the bolt end. work back and forth back and forth to get it loosened. Then you can try and turn it on out. Hope this helps FixYa up.

I would try spraying some WD-40 on the bolt, and try to tighten it, loosen it, tighten and loosen it, don't spare the WD-40. Ford Trucks and some Ford Cars seem to have this problem alot.

Trouble replacing the starter in a 1998 F-150

Still need help? warlock61 is correct, if the mounting bolts are out, it may just be stuck in place. Spray the area where it meets the housing with wd-40 or similar penetrating oil. Several times over one day, let sit overnight, then try giving it a few whacks with a wood mallet or plastic hammer (or use a regular hammer, just be gentle!)
Let us know how it goes, and if you already got it out, or if you need more help. Curt
