Throttle body butterflies not closing correctly. Check that throttle shaft moves freely, check that the accelerator cable moves freely, check the throttle return spring tension, check carb base and intake manifold for vacuum leaks.

I have a quickfuel 650 on a stroked 383. motor ran, it will not start now. looking at the carb I notice alot of fuel leaking into one of the the secondary barrels even after turning the key off.

Hey Dave, Sounds like one of the floats stuck open... do you have a mechanical or electrical fuel pump..(electrical pump must shut off)..anyway the pressure in the lines will cause the leaking if the floats are stuck, .. even after its turned off...its probably flooded too.

Will not idol down has 383 4 barrel

It sounds like choke heater is not working, if electric test for power if heated by exhaust make sure tubes are clear and hot air is flowing in choke housing. Is the choke butterfly too tight?. May need to adjust tension

Dodge slant 6

I'm not sure, it's been a while but I think it's a 2 barrel. Take the breather off and look down inside the carb. There will be 1 or 2 "holes" going down, these are the barrels.
Putting a larger carb on it will require an adapter plate. I do recall back in the 80's seeing an adapter plate for a 4 barrel for a slant 6. Probably your best bet would be to get in touch with a company like "Summit Racing" and see what they have available.

Ipulled out a318 with a2 barrell carb installed 383 4 barell I have the factory 5/16 fuel line and new factory pump on heavy acceloration from stop it tries to die then takes off and acelorates fine do I...

Sounds like the accelerator pump circuit in the carb is not squirting fuel in when you depress the accelerator. That is why you get the lag in acceleration before it decides to launch. When you open the carb you should get a steady stream of fuel from the accelerator pump. With the engine not running look down the carb throat and open the throttle blades and visually check to see that there is a stream of fuel when doing so. If not time to rebuild the carb, or just get another accelerator pump for
the carb.

Truck is flooding on start and idols extremely rough. It has a single barrel carb and the fuel smell is strong at idol. This carb was over adjusted prior to replacing the head. How do I get the adjustments...

Your adjustment is really , really out or your choke is stuck or hooked up wrong. I personally dont suggest that you do the adjusting yourself if your not familiar with carbs due to the fact that it is what feeds your engine the explosive juice it needs to run AND you dont want to have a fire in your engine compartment. But I do suggest that you take it to a person qualified and have it checked out before it dedoes start a fire or other internal damage to your engine. But if you are familiar, reply and I'll walk you thru it.

I suggest carrying around a small screwdriver for this reason... at all times. My 67 stang had this problem in the Straight 6. There are going to be two adjusters, I honestly say just mess with it until you get an adequate response from the motor that you like. (This is for rough, quick, on the fly moments, like being late for work.) Both will need to be messed with in order for you to get the best burn you can.

1979 chevy 350 modded to 383 stroker i have been

Sounds like the engine can't breath,
make sure pcv valve is good,or oil cap is vented.
your engine is building up pressure and has no where to vent,so it blows the easiest thing, the dip stick
