I found that 1991 through 1996 Dakota are the 1st Gen Facelift. According to Autozone the 1993 and 1996 are the same engines. If you call your local junk yard they have a 100% accurate answer.

That is a whole of 'new'. You need an auto-electrician. Some ECM need to be programmed with the vehicle VIN Number. You also need to verify the new one is a working one. The ECM controls the fuel pump and the anti-theft. Only a professional grade scan tool can do that.
Pump the tank dry of the fuel using the electric fuel pump, just jump the fuel pump relay to get the pump to run and remove the supply line to the injectors and attach a hose. Use extreme caution around gasoline, no sparks, ground the container to the truck.
Sounds like it may be a fuelpump, the best way to know for sure is with a fuel gauge,as far as interchangeable pumps it depends on the motor size, and tank size, the 1995 1996 are interchangeable depending if its a returnless fuel system, as you go up it years there are diffrent fuel modules and diffrent tank sizes,
