I've seen this happen on some makes and models. If steering is hard against the lock mechanism, pull hard, opposite from the stop, that may release the tension on the lock cylinder so you can turn the key. The shifter is in park, correct?
Your steering wheel is turned excessively causing pressure on the mechanism. Turn steering wheel to relieve pressure off lock mechanism (about 1/8 inch) while turning key

usually you should do it for peugeot diesel at 122000 miles along with water pump and the tensioner roller that runs under the cambelt too. But to be on the safe side do it at 100000 and save the fortune.
