Shut the choke off slowly until the motor is warmed up. If this doesn't work you should give a better explanation of what is wrong, please proof read your reply.

SOURCE: Dead Battery

Sure..you need to get a volt/amp tester to verify alternator strength. If that is OK then each one of your circuits has to be checked for too much electrical draw. It sounds like that is your problem because as you run the car the alternator takes care of your electrical needs; however the battery takes a hit each night if one or more of the circuits is drawing too much juice.

That year has about the last ignition module it will run fine until it gets about warm them it dies once it cools it will crank and run fine again for a little bit then out again if this is what its doing change the ignition module it is a big square box under the hood made out aluminum. If you need further help let me know thanks. This was a common problem of sudden stalling of the engine.

Buick security light flashing? How to reset security?

If you have a remote key fob for your locks etc it very much sounds like the battery is dead which will cause the car to"lockdown" so-replace battery. Good luck!

What is causing my 1986 jeep grand wagoneer engine to stall while driving? I cannot restart it but there is power. It will turn over but not start and there is gas in it. The jeep just went "poof" and died...

ok, its and old jeep, cranks but will not start.

carb fueled right? crank it wide open throttle to clean the flood
and block open the choke, if CARB has auto choke, if manual choke make sure its open. (push in knob... called choke)
fuses first. test them.
first check for spark in all cylinders.
if you have spark on all , then its flooded.
if no spark on one try a new spark plug and wire.
if all spark is dead , do the tuneup. now. all spark parts.
if spark is dead, check it at the coil, ? good there? or not.
that is a start.
if the carb is bad, we cant cover rebuilding it here.

stalls while driving has over 50 causes.
but bad spark or flooding tops list. (assumes engine is ok)

Turns over but wont start

Briannatara:

Some questions to help in the analysis........

You say "it cranked for about 3 seconds and died as if I turned off the key" did it actually start and then die?
Have there been any clues (unusual happenings) recently that might relate to the current problem?

Is there a reason the battery went dead? was something left on? Lights, etc?

How old is the battery?

2000 Oldsmobile Bravada

Please stop using the starting fluid, it is terrible for your engine- use choke cleaner if you need to do this in the future again. you can run it on choke cleaner indefinately if needed.
It sounds like your fuel pump quit on ya. When you turn the key to the "run" position do you hear the pump run in the tank for 3-5 seconds? you should. The fuel pump is in the gas tank and the tank has to be removed to acess it.
you can remove the coil wire from the coil and check to see if the coil is firing a spark. crank the engine with the wire off. make sure there is no starting fluid or choke cleaner fumes around before you do this-k? Carefull not to let it shock you. if it is sparking then you should check the fuel pressure. it should be 60psi while cranking the engine. you will need a fuel pressure guage to do this.
Good luck........Scott

Sometimes it turns over and starts but won't stay running right won't start at all!

On the 2000 Bravada I have the "pleasure" of maintaining, I was recieving calls about 3x a week. It would crank over and not start.. and she would try this till the battery was dead. I would come jump it and it would be fine. Then it would crank over and start, but die right away, and do this 4 or 5 times before it would run. Does that sound like your problem?
The problem I found was the EGR valve was locking up. Once I replaced that it was all better, and purring like a kitten.

Good Luck
