Have you used the manufacturer's specific oil type and rating? Sometimes a switch to mineral from semi-synthetic might cause issues or using a thinner type of oil from spec.

Have you recently had an oil change?

Whats wrong with my car?

The ticking sound maybe from a lifter or the valve lash on one or more lifters is a little loose. As to the smoke you may have a shed roof seal in the head going bad and letting oil into the valve. This would cause the engine to smoke at start up. Not sure this is going to help but gives you a place to start.

Pound ticking noise when my 99 durango starts goes away after the engine warms up

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

I have a ticking noise i was told it may be a loose rocker arm or a rod bearing... really hope its a rocker arm. but it get worse when the motor warms up, and only ticks in mid rpms when in high rpm the...

One thing you should get checked is the oil pressure. You could have an oil pump that is going out or getting weak. Also depending on how regular you are with your oil changes it is possible that you could have a sticky lifter. The oil pressure at idle should be 4 psi and 25-80 psi at 3k rpm.If it is less than 4 psi at idle do not do the 3k rpm. This is check with a warm engine.(normal operating temp).Hope this helps.Good luck.

Hard starting, may run ok until it gets warmed up,ticking, backfire

either bad head gaskets, oil pump is bad, start with simple things change oil & filter start car listen to see if you have an air leak around intake and or heads hook an oil compression tester up and see if oil is pumping properly if not could be a faulty oil pump

solid lifters? i could be wrong but i think they are hydraulic lifters. ive had quite a few of them not pump up when re-installing the valvetrain and cause a tick. pull off the valvetrain and check to see if all the lifters/tappets are firm with no squish. that might be your problem
