Ford F150 2006 Transmission fault light periodically comes on, a mechanic cannot find a problem, what is the deal?

This is true. Sometimes the faults are intermittent. the engine computer checks, see a fault and reports it, then the fault goes away and the light goes off. If it eventually stays on, then you can do something about it. nothing to worry about yet.

You need to scan your computers to find out why the lights are coming on. There will be fault codes stored that may lead you to the answer.

When your O/D light is flashing it means the Power train control module or transmission module has detected a fault with the transmission which needs attention.This could be a electrical or a mechanical issue within the transmission that needs repair. thanks for using fixya

HI. This will be the fault of a defective speed sensor. The module is responsible for transferring the correct data to the ic, located just behind your in-dash speedometer. This sensor must be replaced. The location of the affected part will be mounted on the transmission. Normally, mounted on the front of the transmission housing.

Replace the speed sensor asap.
