What will make my 05 Dodge Magnum shift the first to second then go into third and it hit reverse

There could be several reasons why your 2005 Dodge Magnum is experiencing problems with shifting from second to third gear and then suddenly hitting reverse, including:
  1. Transmission Fluid Level: Low transmission fluid level can cause erratic shifting, slipping, or stalling in your vehicle. Make sure to check your transmission fluid level and add if necessary.
  2. Shift Solenoid: A faulty shift solenoid can cause problems with shifting in your transmission. The solenoids control the flow of transmission fluid through the valve body, which controls the shifting of gears. If the shift solenoid is failing or has failed, it can cause the transmission to slip, shift erratically, or get stuck in a gear.
  3. Transmission Pump: The transmission pump is responsible for pumping transmission fluid through the transmission and to the torque converter. If the pump is failing, it may not be able to pump fluid properly, leading to problems with shifting and slippage.
  4. Valve Body: The valve body controls the flow of transmission fluid through the transmission and directs the shifting of gears. If the valve body is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
  5. Transmission Control Module (TCM): The TCM is responsible for controlling the transmission's shifting and overall performance. If the TCM is failing, it can cause the transmission to shift erratically or get stuck in a gear.
It's best to have a qualified mechanic diagnose and repair the issue as they will have the necessary tools and expertise to properly diagnose and fix the issue.

Possible causes of OBD code P0730
- Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Shift solenoids - Shift solenoids harness or connectors - Transmission mechanical problems - Transmission hydraulic control circuit The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: The TCM has detected that the transmission is trying to mechanically shift to a lower gear than intended

Possible causes of OBD code P0735
- Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Shift solenoids - Transmission mechanical problems - Transmission hydraulic control circuit The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: P0735 is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 5th gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

Why won't 2003 pontiac grand prix. shifter come out of park?

Shift - interlock system problem .
Automatic Transmission Shift Lock Control System
The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
• The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
• The automatic transmission park lock solenoid
• The automatic transmission shift lock control switch
• The transmission range switch
With the ignition in the ON position, battery voltage is supplied to the automatic transmission shift lock control switch. The circuit continues through the normally-closed switch to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The transmission range switch provides a path to ground for the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid in the PARK position. With the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid energized the shift lever is mechanically locked in the PARK position. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the contacts in the automatic transmission shift lock control switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This allows the shift lever to move from the PARK position. When the shift lever is out of the PARK position the controlled ground contacts in the transmission range switch open. This prevents the automatic transmission shift lock solenoid from energizing when the vehicle is out of the PARK position.

  • What has happened is your transmission solenoid pack has gone bad. Not to worry, this is an easy fix.

  1. You need to purchase a transmission solenoid pack and a gasket.
  2. You can take your chances with a salvage yard or you can get one off of e-bay for about half of what the dealer will charge you or you can go to the dealer.
  3. Pop your hood and look on the top of the transmission. That little black box is the transmission solenoid.
  4. Clean the area around the solenoid real well with a shop rag.
  5. Remove the connector hooked onto the solenoid.
  6. You may have a linkage to pop off.
  7. Now remove the long bolts holding it into the transmission.
  8. Now wiggle the solenoid out.
  9. Reverse to finish.
  • That's it. Real easy fix for this vehicle.
