I guess you mean the dash lights up but the engine does not crank over at all. Turn on headlamps and try it. If lamps dim, can be bad battery connections, bad solenoid or starter. If lights do not dim, bad solenoid, ignition switch or starter solenoid wiring.
Starter needs 9.5 volts minimum but dash lights will light with far less. Is the engine turning over or totally dead. If dead battery is bad or discharged.
Hi there: Check the brake fluid level in the master cylinder. This is the only other thing that will turn that light on. There is a float inside the master and if it is low, the light will come on. Be sure to check and make sure the float comes up when you top it off.
If the o/d light is illuminated on your dash, the overdrive is turned off on the vehicle. When the light is off, the o/d is on. The light just lights up to tell you that you've turned the o/d off.
