Convertible top wont open but the windows go down i was wondering where is the microswitch located

It's located on the lower left of the frame as you are standing facing the trunk - drivers side. You can see how the partition is supposed to press on it. Press it with your finger and listen for an audible click. Tape it in the closed position to "fool" the car and see if the top works. It may be bad, broken, or just out of position. Or your partition my need some adjustment and is not pressing the switch properly.

Principles of Operation
Convertible top operation is controlled by the smart junction box (SJB). When the convertible top raise/lower switch is operated, the SJB commands the front and rear windows to the full down position. Window operation is disabled while the convertible top raise/lower switch is being operated. When the SJB receives a full down input for both rear windows, it commands the appropriate relay closed to raise or lower the convertible top. If the SJB does not receive a full down input signal for both rear windows, convertible top operation is disabled.
The convertible top assembly is a floating frame, Z-fold design. The main pivot brackets are attached to the body, and the convertible top frame side rails expand or fold when the convertible top is raised or lowered. The LH and RH stay pads are attached to the convertible top frame bows, and provide the main source of tension for the convertible top material. When the convertible top is in the full down position, it stores in the compartment behind the rear seat backrest. When the convertible top is in the full up position, the body provides a stop which the convertible top frame number 5 bow contacts to provide a weather seal for the convertible top against the body.
The convertible top hydraulic system uses a 12-volt reversible pump and motor assembly. When active, the pump uses hydraulic pressure to extend the hydraulic lift cylinders to raise the convertible top, or retract the hydraulic lift cylinders to lower the convertible top. The convertible top motor/pump assembly is equipped with a thermal circuit breaker. The circuit breaker typically resets after 5 minutes depending on the ambient temperature. The thermal circuit breaker cannot be repaired and must be installed as a unit with the motor/pump assembly. In the event of a hydraulic system failure, the convertible top cannot be operated manually.

  1. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the diagnostic tool to the data link connector (DLC) and select the vehicle to be tested from the diagnostic tool menu. If the diagnostic tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • check that the program card is correctly installed.
    • check the connections to the vehicle.
    • check the ignition switch position.
  1. If the diagnostic tool still does not communicate with the vehicle, refer to the diagnostic tool operating manual.
  1. Carry out the diagnostic tool data link test. If the diagnostic tool responds with:
    • SCP or ISO circuit fault; all electronic control units no response/not equipped, refer to Section 418-00 .
    • No response/not equipped for SJB; refer to Section 419-10 .
    • System passed, retrieve and record the continuous diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), erase the continuous DTCs, and carry out self-test diagnostics for the smart junction box (SJB).
  1. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to the Smart Junction Box (SJB) Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Index.
  1. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to Symptom Chart .

My convertible top got stuck so i had to disengae motors for top, now my trunk wont open, what do i do


there is a microswitch on the right side under roof cover if roof cover not fully down boot is locked shut by microswitch you might be able to press on cover and you may here boot lock solinoid click off get some one to push boot lock if you can.t reach when you get in boot /trunk you should see small wire that travels across rear bulkhead disconnect this and trunk/boot lid will open but roof will not obviasly i,ve worked on one of these all day today and have had every thing wrong with roof you could imagine good luck

C70 Volvo 2001 convertible top stop midway when trying to put the top up. It is as if the motor stop once the top secured to the froont windshield. The back would not come down and secure and the windows...


One of the microswitches at the latches is not engaging stopping the cycle for safety reasons in case something is stuck, open the roof again and inspect the latch down areas for foreign objects or a misaligned microswitch.

1995 Jaguar convertable XJS quarter light windows wont go up


The rear windows are controlled by a timer in the top's ECU. If
the rear windows stop fully closing before your top is closed, the
problem MAY be with top's hydraulic system.

Check your top's hydraulic reserve tank for low fluid level. Lack
of fluid will greatly delay the top's closing sequence, leaving
those rear windows partially open.
Your top's hydraulic pump system is located beneath the right side
of the cubby/storage box behind the front seats. Raise the cover
and you'll see a removable trim panel on the right side. The pump
is behind that access panel.

You can use power steering fluid to top off the tank, but don't
fill it above level indicator line. You may have to add more fluid
after you cycle the top up and down to get the air bubbles out of
the lines.
It could also be a relay. On a 95 the relays that are in the trunk above the battery.
Perhaps, just switching the relays might prove which one is failing..

Z3 Convertible top - seems to be a common problem


In general, without any testing or diagnosis, you could be dealing with any of the following:

* Open relay - Located at the pump unit
* Close relay - Located at the pump unit
* End position micro-switch
* The operating switch itself
* An issue with the pump unit, but I doubt this, due to the intermittent nature. However, do check the hydraulic fluid level.

The windows do not have to be down for the system to run.

The brake pedal must be pressed while operating the switch. There is a switch at the pedal that signals the convertible top system, but if your brake lights are functioning, the brake switch will not be at fault.

The system is pretty simple and some quick electrical tests should locate the faulty item.

The Bentley repair manual for the Z3 has all of the electrical wiring diagrams, for use in the diagnostics. You can purchase this at Bavarian Autosport 800-535-2002.

2007 Beetle convertible, window doesn't drop


Possibly just a relay telling the window to lower slightly has gone bad. If it's only when the top is put up or down, you can either lower the windows yourself (most cost effective since it's not a major inconvenience), take it to a dealer if you are still under warranty, or check to see if there is a sensor or relay that has gone bad, causing this malfunction.

Power rooftop only lock and unlocks and does not open or close by the switch


check the partition in the trunk to make sure it is fully in the down position. if the light on the switch is orange then the microswitch is not depressed. if the light is red and the top still wont open then you have a bad pump due to water ingress from clogged up body cavity drains. this is an expensive repair.

Convertible top won't go down on my 1998 bmw 323ic


Sounds like the sensor has faulted or the pump has become disengaged. Usually when the light is flashing it's a sensor. You can check for a pinched line or low fluid also. There is a manual lock overide procedure to get the windows up, it's in you owners manual.

1993 325i Power Convertible Top will not open


has to be rest and tested by bmw dealship something has caused the roof to stop possible the control unit failed, a faulty microswitch in roof or the straps in the roof have failed and thrown it out of timing, cauing it to shout down system.
